Alan -- ignore what I said earlier. You are right. The 1.0.1 version will make it so you can't launch the earlier 1.0.0 version. The Mac App Store was supposed to post the 1.0.1 version so this wouldn't be an issue, but they are giving me trouble approving it. Ugh.

The only problem it seemed to cause was recognising the Users so that completed mansions have all disappeared. Saved games stil work though, so no biggie.

Player profiles created in 1.0.1 won't be able to be opened in 1.0.0.
I'm working with Apple to try to get the 1.0.1 update released on the Mac App Store. Having trouble, but hopefully that'll get resolved soon. Then this will all be a non-issue.
