duke, if you're still around, I recently discovered the same problem, but my error message said that I couldn't play my saved custom mansion games until I registered. But then I opened Episode 1 of the game, and lo and behold, I am able to open saved custom games. It won't work with Episode 2 of the game, but it does with Episode 1.

Give that a try and see if it works. Good luck.
