Title: Volcanis
Post by Freddy on 23.12.2006 at 20:20:38
@ Wingy: Do you know yet, if you are going to enlarge this mansion with more volcanos? To know for the updates-stuff, if you still remember it. Thx.

No Im not going to continue the Volcanis updates. :( I'm stick of lava! ;D

I'm going to put out a "contest." :)

All you have to do is tell me what's your timing of beating Volcanis, how much money, and how many Jacks left.

Person with best time, money, and jacks wins!
Winner gets their name at the winning spot of my newest mansion, Midnight Pyramids!
(Nearly done and I want their name fast!)

Contest deadline: This Sunday! (Dec. 31st) :)

@Rose: You sent me a movie of you beating the mansion, right? Well my computer didn't reconize the file and sadly I couldn't see it! :( So maybe you could post the times and all on the site like I told everyone els!

Wingy, I will as soon as I am out of the beam maze. I need to get to a saving point first.

Wow looks like you didn't make Jack die so many times, Rose. You might win! :)

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Freddy on 31.12.2006 at 03:17:40
Sorry Wingy. I am a too bad player to get through that room with all those platforms sinking in the lava. I ... hate lava ...  >:( >:( So I need to quit for that competition.

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by rose on 31.12.2006 at 13:50:51
Hey Freddy, don't give up!! I thought it would stop me but after 10-20 tries or so I figured out how to get passed it!

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Wingy on 31.12.2006 at 19:32:00
Ok so its Sunday morning right now, and really cold but sunny, and it looks like only one person entered the contest!  ;D So I guess Rose wins! I'm going to release Midnight Pyramid 1.0 once I put rose's name up.  ;)

(About in 2 hours!)

When I do that, I'll send a copy to Freddy and Brell by e-mail and put an attachment in Custom Mansion Area/Free up- & Downloading.

Just wait 2 hours then you can explore a all-new mansion!  :D

I agree that this room with all platforms is a bit  :-/ tricky to say the least. Well I lost all my Jacks there and it looks like you need a heap of luck to get through... Good thing there's a saving point just before! Bad thing I used it too early  :D  (Not to mention that you can lose a Jack by the lava upstairs).

Actually I wanted to report a Jack-Stuck (no comment please Freddy  ;)) That's in rooms 16507 / 16508. What happened to me was: I closed the grey door upstairs, left the room, reentered almost immediately and got cheap-killed by the bird; then I reappeared in this same left room but downstairs. Then I found it impossible to get back on the normal way (out of the right room)!

Of course another more canonical way to reappear downstairs would appear to be: close grey door, step on snake

Apart. from these, very good mansion with entertaining challenges and neat designs -- Congratulations Wingy  [smiley=beer.gif]

To tell you the truth, that room I've never gotten through it alive IN the game. Only in the editor while I was making Volcanis!  ;)
I think it would be very challanging for everyone.
You can't just beat like its easy!  :D

I do it with my eyes closed! 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) Although that doesn't help. >:( :-/ :'( >:( :-/ :'(

Did you have a look at that thing of which Toybox ordered me to :-X ?

Send you a PM as well, Wingy.

I finally finished the mansion [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I must confess I, um, redesigned slightly one of the rooms :-? Otherwise the mansion was great, my favourite puzzle being the one where you have to activate a lever while jumping over a scorpion pit (after the top left red door in the end, I think).

Also, I ended up with 110% secrets.

Uh oh... Time for another update! So eh... how many secrets are there in total? I forgot... Press Command + D once you're done the mansion. (Like right before you enter the big-dark door.)

PM when you know.  ;)

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Freddy on 19.01.2007 at 18:59:01
An update may indeed be needed, Wingy. I can't remember having seen any reply from you about the Jack-stuck that Toybox reported on January the 15th. A problem in the area 16507-16508.

Since we know now that during play you, as the designer, never got through "you know", it is my advice to make that room less impossible. I will not stop anyone's creativity, but as difficulty-degree "very hard" should be the limit. It stops playing-pleasure when rooms feel as nearly impossible. (Not for me, since I like challenges and I should keep on trying once in a while.) But soooo hard is probably not a good idea.

And while you are busy ... recount the secrets? ;)

Yes I'm gonig to fix all that in my good time. O drat. Its 1:54... time to go to my job! AHH! There's a blizzard out there! AND ITS PAY DAY!!!  :'(

I've been quite busy and haven't had ANY time to work on StarCraft. It won't be finished for awhile. I can't seem to find any site that has the StarCraft Game Music so I can add a track or two for the mansion!  :( Anyone know where I could? I don't expect any will tell me...  :'(

Please keep the legal issues in mind (we talked about that) - it's simply not legal to use copyrighted music without having obtained proper licenses to do so (i.e. paying the composer). Taking music from another game, however old, is "problematic", to say the least.

You might want to choose some "Public Domain" music instead.....   (for example old blues recordings, that are older than 50 years, have gone into public domain). There are also websites around where you can download or buy royalty-free music.

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Wingy on 21.01.2007 at 01:40:32
I see people using StarCraft Music all the time in their music videos! They're not selling them, are they? So why can't I use it for a custom mansion for game? I'm not selling the mansion, am I?  :-?

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by aquaMat on 21.01.2007 at 05:47:34
Yes and no.

The music-videos you're talking about, are (I assume) YouTube-type 'home-made' productions. Strictly spoken, even that use is ILLEGAL, but the copyrioght holders just don't prosecute this violation, as
1. They think it's too "small" a violation  or
2. In the end it's even promotion for their music, and that "outweighs" the violation   or  (and that is most likely the case)
3. They don't even know about it

But -just because they do not press some legal charges  doesn't mean that it is legal...!!

And although you're not selling the mansion you created, you still are distributing it over the internet, so that is far more than what is considered a "private use".

You might get away with it, as it might go unnoticed..... but is it really worth the risk ??

But I'm not an expert on US copyright, as I live in Germany.... but I do know that American copyright laws are even stricter than the German ones....

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Wingy on 21.01.2007 at 07:57:10
What about Canadain laws?  ::)

Anyways... I've seen people using StarCraft Music in all sorts of different ways... for example, the flash game, StarCraft FA 3, ( See it here: http://www.ugoplayer.com/games/starcraftfa3.html ) used StarCraft music for their custom flash game! So why can't I use StarCraft music for my custom MM mansion?  :-?

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by aquaMat on 21.01.2007 at 19:16:46
The craetors of the flash game you mentioned, will probably have licensed the music.
After all, it's called StarCraft.....

US laws will apply, I assume, because the creators of the StarCraft music are US citizens (I assume), and they will want to sue you on their turf, not yours   ;)

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Freddy on 21.01.2007 at 19:30:49
@ Wingy: I understand that you are eager to use THAT music together with the wonderful mansion you are creating. But please, don't bring Vern (& his ActionSoft), nor yourself (& your parents) into trouble.

Sorry, I got stuck in the room just after the ladder maze with the moving platform/conveyor belt. It is soooooo hard to make that jump. And you didn't even make it easier for the Volcanis Easy thing. >:(

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Wingy on 31.01.2007 at 19:43:50
One thing to get clear, Maniac: Volcanis Low isn't a easier version. It's for older computers. It just gets rid of all the unnecessary lava.

And the catapult thingy... well you're just suppose to jump while you're on the moving platform thats going around on the belt. I took that idea when ToyBox when he said on the old forums: "To make a belt go faster you cannot do, but you can add a moving platform to spice it up.[smiley=evil.gif]"

Good luck, and enjoy! Watch out for the crazy part at the end. In the top left hand corner inside the red doors, there's something you can do with your eyes closed! (Says Freddy)  8-) ;D
Btw, what ever happened to the bashing-head avatar you had? I really liked it. It suited you!  ;D

Cheers,
Wingy

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Maniac on 01.02.2007 at 06:03:20
Oh, I see.

Well, yeah, the problem with that being the conveyor belt also acts upon you so Jack keeps falling off the catapult and jumping conveyor-speed into the lava.

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Mikee on 11.02.2007 at 08:21:28
Hey Maniac,

It is completely simple in this space: You must be simply on the disk and make then a large Jump to the right. Its not hard!

;)

Title: Re: Volcanis
Post by Maniac on 11.02.2007 at 10:27:40
Well, duh, I figured that out already.

The problem is that the conveyor belt still moves Jack even when he's on the moving platform, so it's easy to "slip" off the brick and jump at an inopportune moment.

Is that okay for you, Wingy?

Can someone give me a hint on where to find the green key for room 16910?
Is it before or after that room? If after, through which red door (I don't want to
have to do the psychotic platform room again if I can help it!) I made it to
the end of the game but never found the green key.

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome, miltrump.

Jack has to do push-ups to get the key. Keep holding the arrow key down, and after several seconds, Jack will start the push-ups and get the key.
