Title: SC > StarCraft Episodes
Post by Wingy on 29.01.2007 at 07:29:49
This Tread is for all StarCraft Episodes 2 and up. Episode one is in the other tread. Here's the second episode! Just finished testing it and I'm pretty sure there's no bugs! (Unless someone finds some!)  ;) Here you go! Enjoy!  8-)

@Freddy: Any idea when Episode one will be on "the list?"

EDIT: Updated! I replaced old starcraft_ep2.zip with newer starcraft_ep2v1.1.zip.  :)

Attachment removed by Freddy to avoid confusing. This mansion is now downloadable at the List of Completed Mansions

See "How to upload a mansion" at Custom Mansions Area / List of Completed Mansions. The ONLY demand for a new custom mansion is, that it has been beta-tested thoroughly. Since that has not happened before you posted it at Free Up- & Downloading, I suggest to wait a few weeks for reactions on the boards.

Try to see it this way. Arevn's Mansion and Palace of Gore are in a period of serious tests since a few weeks. It wouldn't be honest to these colleague-designers if your mansion should get listed without being tested.

Hi!
Ther is one thing I would like to make you aware of and that is that in room 16101 Jack has to stand on the lava to be able to jump up to the first grey block. I don't think it is faire, he should be able to jump while having at least his heels on the tile. This is not just a "problem" in this mansion but it was a bit extreme here.

JAck is still having fun exploring new mansions!

Wingy, I found a few minor issues in your StarCraft Episode 2:

In room #16299 I have the feeling there is the wrong text on the BBB. (It's the same text as on the BBB of room # 16303).

In room #16098 the right blue key cannot be picked up 'properly', only if Jack turns his back to the key. I'm sure beginning players are not aware of this phenomenon, and might get highly frustrated, because they can not pick up that blue key at the right, even if they were able to pick up the key on the left (by ducking forward).

There are a few more minor issues and, BTW, the first BBB (in Episode 1) has a couple of errors (grammar and spelling etc.) and 2 words that appear double.....

Apart from that, I'm surprised at how fast you put out Episode 2. It's great !!!   :D

He doesn't have to be on the lava. You just stand at the edge of the lava!  ;) But I suppose newbies wouldn't figure that out... So I guess I'll make it closer in the next update!

1°: Hmm... thats funny... Im positive I set that BBB to I.D. 128! Anyways... I fixed it. It will be up in the next update. Also, I think I fixed the bad grammer in episode one. I updated episode one.

2°: I suppose you're right about newbies not being able to get at the blue keys in that factory. I make the belt longer so it comes right to Jack.

Glad you like it. I'll update it very soon.
Cheers,
Wingy

Here's StarCraft Episode 3 :: Acid Plant!

You'll need to find secrets to continue, but I won't make them count as secrets.  :)

SpaceStation Info:
Difficulty: Normal - Hard
Rooms: Around 20
Vespene Gas & Minerals: 10,000
Secrets: 3 (As usual)

Enjoy!  :D 8-)

@Freddy: Why does AquaMat's mansion, Faces, get put on the list before any of my StarCraft Episodes?!  >:( Oh and when you do, make sure you put all the episodes in one .zip file and name it "StarCraft Episodes"  :)

Looking forward to playing it...!

Hmmm... I can't get all the secrets in StarCraft2! Argh!

I'm on the last screen where there are three switches, I see what they do but not how they help me get to $10,000. I've been over the mansion like three times but can't find the last secret. Pooooooooo!

Help?

EDIT: Nevermind, found it. I am SOOOO impatient. :D.

Sam,

didn't you get & read the Read-Me-First I have written for/with Wingy to accompany StarCraft ??
It was included in the 1st download.

If you follow these steps exactly, everything should work fine !!

Try it again, step by step !!

And if you can't get it to work, you can still play it with the regular graphics. Not what the designer would want, but at least you could play.

Wingy, I've been enjoying your Starcraft Episodes very much, and am amazed at what you've accomplished with the graphics. But I have to confess that once it was posted that the game could be played with the original sprites, that's how I had to continue playing. Only because us older folks have difficulty seeing with lower-contrast graphics. :oP

Unfortunately I had to two times again try it with the 3 episode to it folded  ;)

I don't get it. Are you only confused about the graphics because its all grey-ish? Ted will be better. It's going to be colourful and best of all it's comical, witty, droll, humorous, wacky, waggish, entertaining, hilarious and jocular! (Don't ask me, I got it out of a Thesaurus)

That becomes correctly exciting.
Question of the daily: Which diagram becomes better?

a.) TED
b.) Starcraft

Well then tunes times off people!   ;) ;) :D

He's talking about the same principle that lets the yellow spoilers work. When two colors are close enough together it becomes harder to tell them apart (especially as the eyes age).

What this means in the context of Midnight Mansion is that if there is not enough contrast between foreground and background, then some players may have to squint to tell where the platforms are!

I myself tend to focus ahead of Jack and watch him with my peripheral vision. With low-contrast graphics, though, that doesn't work. I found this out while testing the early Dominator betas--I kept running JAC off platforms because I couldn't tell with the corner of my eye where they ended! But then the amazing joeb fixed it, and all was right with the world.

Don't worry, there's going to be a blue sky background, and there's a fire background, and there's a forest background. I have a brown platform for the fire place, so I think its ok. But I suppose I should make a yellow platform... You've seen my screenshots, they're not THAT low contrast, right?

Just to make it clear... its Ted, not TED. It says TED in my avatar because I want to get the message through! :P

NOTICE:::
Anyone who wants to create another starcraft episode, go ahead....

Rules:
1. The difficulty should be normal
2. Rooms should be about 20-40
3. To make a new one, download an episode, make a copy, rename it what you want.
3.1 Go into the editor of the copied version, go into Mansion info and rename it.
3.2 Then go into the "open room" screen and delete all the rooms and start making!

Rules for designing:
4. Add a destroyed teleporter sprite where Jack starts.
5. Put whatever built-in music you want, who cares. Have none at all if you want.
6. Make every background space, and add a planet background here and there.

Thats all you need to know!

Duplicate (command + D) a starcraft episode, and go into it, and delete the old rooms, then make a new episode. Rename the episode to what you want!
