Title: Church
Post by samskelton on 30.01.2007 at 06:58:17
Hey guys! it's sam and I'm finally back on

Some of you know me but for others I was the 11 year old that made the lost jungle and soon to be famous...Church
The church is a very interesting mansion because there's different floors. Every floor gets harder and closer to the finish.
Happy to say I will include custom backgrounds and music and whatever else I can put in.

-Sam

Ok heres the story of the church. It took a little while to make up. One day while jack was driving through nowhere, he saw an old church. Knowing old places like this had treasure, Jack took the challenge. As he started to place his charge on the wall, he heard a scream. "NO!!! don't go in there!!!" He took off the charge and asked the man why not." I used to go to the church... but then... something bad happened. When the Pasture was trying to do some kind of spirit ceremony for my friends, his eyes turned bright red. His body started floating with an errie glow and everyone ran out. At the last moment I saw a demon come from his body, It flew and hung the lifeless body on the church's cross. We never went in there again."
Jack just put on the charge and blew the wall."Diddnt you hear me?" the man said. "Yup" said Jack and he just walked right on in...

Great! When will it be done? And will the name just be "Church" or be.. umm... "The Old Church" or "The Evil Spirit Church" or something? Because just "Church" is kinda... dull.  ;)

Title: Re: Church
Post by aquaMat on 31.01.2007 at 18:11:07
No, I personally, believe, to just name it Church is way more spooky, than -say- the Evil Church or something.

Go ahead...we want it.
Now.

Sam,
as I said, I think "The Church" might be best..... but as you guys seem to think it's not scary enough, I have one for you:

The Church Of Sin

It's surely frightening, and a bit blasphemic too.... which should suit you, if you're into Heavy Metal (which I despise, BTW).

Title: Re: Church
Post by samskelton on 04.02.2007 at 20:44:53
I'm just saying heavy metal has the best guitar solos in them. There arent many good bands these days so I focus on classic rock and hard rock. Anyway I might even just call it the Church because that sounds dramatic but I'm still thinking about it... ;)

Title: Re: Church
Post by samskelton on 10.02.2007 at 06:26:55
I'm adding a new floor called the space observatory, it has a really cool effect with the money. If you put the gold piles in a black room, it looks a lot like stars. atleast I thought it was cool... 8-)

Freddy beat you to the punch on that one.  :P

But I'd love to see that used again. Maybe in a mansion that doesn't take four hours to complete.

Yes, it will be an official realease, and I'm spending a loong time on this mansion. I have to beta test it, and I'm about 3/5 done(or maybe less). I don't know when It'll be out, but when it's out, It'll be good. As the lost jungle took me awhile, this is going to be longer than that... Plus I need to find some custom tunes. That could be a drag.
:( I'll put it out asap, which could be awhile... ( I still need to do the underworld and stuff)

Wingy- Well, we'll have to find out if jack lives or not... It's up to you guys... [smiley=evil.gif] ;) :o

Title: Re: Church
Post by Wingy on 06.03.2007 at 06:35:52
You said... you are beta-testing it... When you're done, please go ahead and e-mail me the mansion for me to beta-test. (Get a hotmail account at www.hotmail.com  :))  8-)It's standard that when you have a mansion going for official release that you get 3 or 4 people beta-testing it before it goes out. That includes all your music and stuff. And I was wondering... if you're going to have custom graphics, well,  ::) can I see some? (E-mail me with hotmail)  8-)

Title: Re: Church

Sorry, The custom graphics are too far ahead of my league for now... I'll give it out to people to beta teat it, don't worry. ;D I'm just saying, I'm making sure there aren't too many unnececary deaths and such... ;D

There's aprox. 15,660 frames in the Ted movie alone. I had to copy / paste then change, copy / past change, each and every frame! All my movies together go over 25,000 frames!  :o There's 15 frames per second and 17 minutes and 24 seconds! How long is your movie? What's it about? Do you have an e-mail to send it to me?  :-/

Title: Re: Church
Post by sam skelton on 08.03.2007 at 05:59:24
All mine are unfinished music videos and my longest is ,well, my first. (aka not good) I'm in the process of making one now though

Title: Re: Church
Post by Wingy on 11.03.2007 at 08:59:10
Music videos? So you're taking clips of film and putting them together and adding music? That's easy. Did you do movies like mine, Pixelated? With more then 10,000 frames?  ::)

Title: Re: Church
Post by sam skelton on 11.03.2007 at 09:55:25
No, I mean I draw a normal flash (a MAJOR amount of pixels) and drawings I do that go with the song, like now, I'm doing the song run to the hills

Title: Re: Church
Post by Wingy on 11.03.2007 at 18:49:26
Ok... that isn't that major, because it's harder to do it with pixels. Using Flash, lines and paintbucket is easy. Then setting them to move somewhere in the right amount of time... but anyways... BTW: Did you pay all about $500 for Flash MX? Or did you get it from someone?  :-?

Title: Re: Church
Post by sam skelton on 11.03.2007 at 22:30:59
my dad is who I got it from. Anyway, I finally am getting to the underworld part, I have lots of Ideas. there's going to be many hard puzzles, tricks, and of course lots of lava. I still need to find more un-copyrighted music and I may put in some custom sounds. Does anybody know how do do that? When I looked at in resedit, It was just numbers and letters. Do you just import it? Anyway...  I should be done in close to two or three months...

Today I came home from church and played Church. ;D

And I've got to say, this is a really delightful mansion! It has quite a few nagging issues that are forgivable because I was enjoying it so much. I've not been playing with my debugging goggles on, so I wasn't taking notes...I might on a second playthrough.

Title: Re: Church
Post by Psychotronic on 26.03.2007 at 10:13:43
That's my feeling, too. It's really bursting with life and imagination. I want to hold off on playing it all the way through until I'm sure the sound files are correct, but after I finish it, I'm sure I'll have a whole list of my favorite parts. There's a point where the visuals just go totally nuts.

Title: Re: Church
Post by aquaMat on 26.03.2007 at 20:08:53
Just like in the Lost Jungle, you've got so many really wonderful visual ideas in The Church, Sam..... and  I think the design even got better !!

Unfortunately -as in the Jungle 2- I feel there are again a number of unnecessary deaths.... which wouldn't be as dramatic if the save pedestal came earlier.
I have to keep replaying from the beginning and everytime I get a bit further... but there's simply a certain number of deaths I can't avoid....which strikes me as a bit odd.

Apart from that (minor) issue.....  wonderful, as always !!!  ;) :D

Title: Re: Church
Post by sam skelton on 27.03.2007 at 07:23:18
Well, It seems I was trying to use wav files for some music, but when I tried It, It diddn't work. Then I deleted the sound in those rooms and It seems  forgot to delete a room. The music works okay for the space area right? It should. The massive fall I might have missed a music spot. Whops!  ::)

You know what's really funny is that I made it to the first pedestal without restarting once, due almost entirely to an awareness and paranoia gained whilst playing DoD. I may have had zero lives, but I made it.

So, uh..thanks? :P

Title: Re: Church
Post by Psychotronic on 27.03.2007 at 12:42:38
Okay, so I sort of finished the mansion. It's obviously the last room, but I can't figure out how to go actually exit. I'm pressing UP in what should be the right place (and everywhere else nearby) but the level doesn't end. That's bug number one.

Bug number two is in SPOILERS Hell, in the room with five nearly motionless eyeballs and a single medusa head lording it over a big row of skeletons. There's two ladders that lead down from that room, but if Jack takes one, he gets stuck in the room with a million money bags on conveyor belts, and everything is behind a big grey wall, and I can't go back up the ladder. I managed to glitch my way out by randomly jumping around until I hit the floor without dying, but I skipped most of Hell and went straight to the treasure rooms. Either those ladders aren't supposed to be there, or there used to be a different room underneath them.END SPOILERS. I didn't want anyone to know where the story eventually led Jack. It was terrifying.

In fact, all my favorite parts shouldn't really be spoiled for anyone who hasn't seen them yet, so I'm gonna yellow the rest of this. Some of my favorite bits:

The grinning lightning demon. Holy awesome.

That creature you see on the left when you're climbing the ladder right after you go through the portal. The one with two legs, three teeth, and a big eyeball. I have named him Granticulus, and he is my friend.

The sort of elevator contraption you fall into when you're descending into hell. That was neat.

The vine made of skeletons.

The vibrating super platform.

The giant black cracks in the walls near the beginning, and the weird black clouds in that one room.

When you first go into SPACE. The stars are pretty.

That's just what I can remember off the top of my head. There's some surprisingly good level design, in terms of layout, too. The library was a lot of fun, and the big storage area. Fun for the brain, and the fingers. But mainly, there's some crazy visual surprise in almost every room, and that really made it fun, even though I died and had to restart three or four times. I got to see all that cool stuff again.

On the topic of cheap deaths - I would say that there wasn't a single unavoidable death in the whole first half of the mansion. I would say that the general forbidding atmosphere kept me from leaping around wildly, and the few times I wandered painfully off a ledge, I noticed a fairly obvious visual clue a half-second later that would have saved my life if I had been paying attention.

There were a couple of weird things later in the mansion, but most of them can be solved by taking your fingers off the keys and letting Jack fall where the mansion makes him fall. When I died, it was usually because I was trying to adjust his fall, and that would throw off the timing of something or other. It was worth the occasional misfire to see the crazy, Sonic-the-Hedgehog-style trip through almost-certain death that followed.

So, great job, Sam. It's your best one yet, and I'm sure to give it another shot just to see everything again. By the way, I had a spare green key when I finally got to Hell. I think it's an extra.

Hah...that's great  :D ;D   (Knew it was good for something...!)
In Church..... it took me about 4 or 5 restarts from the beginning until I reached the first save pedestal..... and now I'm about to repeat that process re-starting from save 1....!! ;)

I'll improve the mansion a little bit. That extra green key was going to be for the end, but I forgot about it. I'll also erase some unavoidable deaths.... And add a save place  :o

Title: Re: Church
Post by Wingy on 28.03.2007 at 08:35:59
There where so many x-treme hard things... like jumps where you have to go to the VERY edge to make. Hated those.

Afew things about it:
While Jack is riding down the pole to "the source.." I had to cheat because there was a save pedestal like 1000 miles back. Anyways... did you test going down it? I died a million times to fall just the right time and at the right speed! I think you copy-pasted some zappers! That leads to certain death to Jack! I would have been at -58 lives without cheats at least!  :-/

Did you know i heard rumors that the "rock on" symbol was made up in a satanic rock concert... just wanted to tell you.

I think that fits with the mansion theme pretty well, eh?

Anyway, I forgot to say thanks for the Dr. Tronic's Zoo shout-outs. Together, the snake machine, the bird machine, and the scorpion machine will be unstoppable!

Title: Re: Church
Post by ryos on 28.03.2007 at 11:54:56
I never have any trouble sliding down the pole. If you make sure to follow the path of the coins, and then let go of the left key as soon as Jack crosses the boundary between rooms, you should be fine.

Title: Re: Church
Post by aquaMat on 28.03.2007 at 16:52:49
Sam,
in that green tower-ish room somewhere after the 2nd save pedestal (sorry I haven't got the room no.), with several shorter and 2 longer vines and a very fast green moving platform:
Is it possible at all to jump on that platform from the vine, once it is moving ??

I never could !!
Thus my game always ends there....

That room was labeled X-treme hard for me. It is possible, but hard. But the pole ride is sooo hard I lost at least 50 lives with cheating!  :o I think you should make your mansions abit easier to beat! I didn't get it like ryos said.  :'( Loved it how you made the cruser and monsters nearly fall on Jack when you warned jack from going into the demension to the source.  :P

@aquaMat: If you jump from the top of the short vine right as the moving platform is closest to you, then you will hit it every time. (And yes, I died a lot before I figured that out.  :o)

I think that all the platforms two rooms up are harder! There's a trick to those too, but it's still hard to pull off (at least for me; I suck at moving platforms).

You mean....... you NEVER BEAT THE MANSION FROM START TO UNDERWORLD????  :o :o :o BTW: Where's the winning spot in the Underworld? Can't find it! (Make hint in yellow) It's good if you play from start to finish with your mansion. I stongly recommend that you test each room and make sure they're beatable. Hey, I didn't do it for Volcanis until I did that movie that was 45 mins! :P

I think It's through the yellow door. I thought It was all beta tested. I went through the mansion twice myself. I also sent It to a few beta- testers

Title: Re: Church

Ahem..... excuse me.... now that shocks me quite a bit, Sam. You only went through your own mansion TWICE from start to finish ?!?  :o

I can't believe it..... (and that explains a few of the design mistakes)....  I went through the Palaces and Discotheque about 50 times each before release (and they were still not perfect) !!

Now I understand why -although filled with wonderful ideas and wild room design- all your mansions seem to share one feature:
the relation between difficulty and saving posts, and/or money being given out, is not perfect. Especially the first save usually comes way too late.

Apart from that I found a few of the following "oddities" in Church:

- several doors can be "jumped upon" (meaning: Jack can jump ON the closed door and thus is able to simply jump behind it without having a key), sometimes this happens in conjunction with other things: e.g. in room 15705 Jack can jump on the top of the red door in the upper left coner (near the belt), and from then on further up, into some hidden caveat.... I thought it might be a hidden area, but I walked on and died of a sudden fall to the ground !!

- occasionally some of those wonderful "elevator machines" you created are mulfunctioning (the same button suddenly triggers the platform ABOVE the one it has triggered before...and you have to leave the room before getting it to work again!

But especially the last point is far outweighed by the wonderfulness of most of these platform-related automatic-transporter-machines (I don't know what else to call them)...they are fantastic !!  As you might know I have experimented with moving sidewalks and elevators etc. quite a bit myself, and you have certainly taken the concept a step futher!!  I especially like the one room, where Jack is moved through at a very high speed and immediatly behind him a block platforms shuts his way back like a door.... great stuff. ;)

(Sorry for this rather long post...)

aquaMat, if you read Sam's post carefully, you see that he had his mansion beta tested by other players.  That is how beta testing works.  Not by you replaying your own mansion x times because you are not the best beta tester for you own mansion, which you know so well that it is easy for you to miss the spots that might bug other players.  Of course the builder has to test every single room and whether Jack can go between rooms without any flaws.  After that the mansion is in the hands of the testers, which are, IMO, much more likely to find the weaknesses of the mansion than the builder.  Whether the builder accepts all of the testers' comments and whether the testers do an excellent job is quite another story.

brell.... while what you say is of course true...(and I know that obviously) I still find important that a designer is playing his own mansion from start to finish as often as possible.
'Cause he designed it, he also knows it best....and even if he doesn't have the distance to find certain things a beta-tester can find, it is alo often the case that a designer -simply because he knows his mansion so well- will find other problems, issues or faults which a beta-tester will not spot immediately.

IMHO it's the combination that works best.  ;)

(BTW, I don't want to come across narrow-minded or something.... but if - like in The Church's case - something as obvious as the missing music error-message hasn't been spotted during beta-testing, I'm not too sure about the depth of testing that went on....).

That sounds logically, but depends from the mansion. MMaM could be released without a single play through the whole mansion. But that had to do with its rather exceptional construction. MMaM is one of the rare mansion that really can be cut in pieces without any harm or problem ...

Okay, so I sort of finished the mansion. It's obviously the last room, but I can't figure out how to go actually exit. I'm pressing UP in what should be the right place (and everywhere else nearby) but the level doesn't end. That's bug number one.

I with you there Psycho. I tried everything I could to find an exit in that room, and nothing. I can't play any more MM until I get my suspended game of Church finished!!!

You could always back up the suspended game file.

Spiak, you can create a new player name and play under the new name, then go back to Church under your other name when you're ready. I have about 5 player names.  ::)

Hi,  I absolutely love MM, and have been thoroughly enjoying it as my daily reward!  I am going thru the CM's again for the second time, and occasionally get stuck on a tough room.  I notice in the forums lots of people name specific mansion rooms with a number.  Where is this found while you are playing the game, or is it because I am using a Mac OS X that I cannot see the room number?

Right now I am Terribly Stuck in Church, (no pun intended) after the second save pedestal in the room with five purple Doors. I have all the keys, but cannot figure out how to get to the room to the right, if I jump off from the next room I die, and if I try to go beneath all the purple doors, the million and one Scorpions get me.  I am getting frustrated and fed up!!!  I have read all the posts on Church, but see none that refer to this room.

Can you or anyone help me with these two questions?

Lots of questions, I know, but it seems like everyone is great, and the comraderie among the players and custom mansion builders is fantastic to read.
thanks
Sandybean (obviously a "Newbie")

Hello Sandybean !

Welcome on our boards as a Lost One ...  8-)

After starting a MM-mansion, press COMMAND+D. In 3 of the 4 corners of your screen you will see yellow ciphers. The upper left corner gives you the current roomnumber where your Jack is, while in the lower right corner you will find how many secrets Jack found so far in that mansion. Don't care (for now) about the upper right corner, where is technical information for designers: frames per second.

I leave your Church-question to its designer. Although I believe that this young MM-friend has exams by now. If he stays away too long ...

Meanwhile you can try to give us the roomnumber? ;)

Hi Everyone,

Thanks Freddy, for helping me to unlock the secret to the room numbers !!! :D

The room I am stuck in is # 17084 CM "Church", see above for how  I think I am stuck, since if I go to the right into room # 17085 and try to jump down, Jack Dies !!!

I have found this whole section since Save Pedestal 2 to be terrifically hard, and often times wished I could make up my own save spot to stick in there somewhere.  GREAT, tricky and fun mansion, definately a challenge. [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif]

Now, how do I get through these rooms to move on to more murder and mayhem????? [smiley=shocked.gif]

Help, anybody??

thanks,  [smiley=dankk2.gif]

Sandybean, now a "Lost One", and its soooo true !!!

Okay. As admin I was able to see that samskelton, the 13 years old designer of this mansion, wasn't online for more than a month. End of school with the obvious examinations, I assume.

Since I never played Church myself, I can't help our new MM-friend, without peeping in the editor. Something I never do with unfinished mansions. Of course. Since it should spoil my future playing fun.

So if there is any one in the world who can help Sandybean through room 17084 from Sam's Church ...

That part? You mean the jump from on top of the tower on the poll of zapper beams? That was X-tremely hard!! I'm 13, and it took me like 20 minutes to find the right possition after using cheats (once I found out I loaded my save  ::)) And there was a spot where you could jump, and u gotta stay in the air for a certain amount of time, then go on the poll. It was sooooo hard.

BTW: Has sam updated it so u can win in "hell?"

WOW !!!

made it all the way to the Yellow Portal in room 17882 !!!

Now I have tried everywhich way to get thru this portal, but no such luck.

I see others have gotten stumped here too. Does anyone out there know the secret? or are we all waiting for this to be finished?

Such a great Mansion, I really want to find the end, and be successful! 8-)

Hi Sam,

Glad to see you are back. ::)

The problem I am having is finishing Church.  I am in room 17882 with the yellow portal, and no matter how I jump or where I go, I cannot get thru it.  (See reply # 97). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Sandybean :D

Yeah I went through the mansion and fixed as many mistakes as I could find and made it a huge amount easier but there's still probably more problems. Yeah, for some reason I forgot to put an exit there (yikes! :o) but that's fixed. I'll release It when I debug it as much as possible but, anyone know where the big problems are? and yes, I added 2 saving points*

Thanks Sam,  let us know when the debugged version is released, there are some of us waiting with 'baited breath'!!! 8-)

PS:  thanks for adding the extra save spots, some of us newbies don't know the tricks to saving unless they are built in.

Yes..... it's true I am a "Wanderer"  (right now I am still wandering around without a hope in the tan section of MM&M), but still very much a 'newbie' at the computer tricks that you guys all have up your sleeves.

It's great you are all so helpful, and sweet, to us 'wanderers and newbies'.

Hehe, the Church is cool with the Sounds, but its a little stupid to end the Mansion. It is better when the players can go to the finish.

Title: Re: Church
Post by Wingy on 22.09.2007 at 08:26:07
I've never really taken the time to go and beat MMaM... I'm always making another mansion! :P

When I get my new nice Macbook... (in 2 weeks or so) I WILL go and beat it...
here I come, MMaM!

Anyways... back to subject...
Make sure you fix that big poll bug... looks to me that you copied and pasted the zapper poll from the towers in each room! Totally untimed! :o

When I played Church last, I HAD to cheat... kept on dying too much because of the lack of save spots! Good to hear there is more.

Or hasn't the update been uploaded yet ??

Well, following these posts I have started to re-play CHURCH again last night.

And I was surprised to find many of the issues I reported way back (when it was released) are still in there: lots of cheap deaths, a few "unfair" bits etc.

But I still like it......  and once those minor issues are taken care of it'll be great !!

A very nice mansion :D
Concerning designing, this is a master piece, and great ideas of mechanism!!!
Even if there are some mistakes, like jumpable doors, or positionning in a next door room. Is there an UD of this mansion?
