Title: Windowed mode
Post by ryos on 14.02.2007 at 13:37:35
It would be really useful to be able to play MM in a window. Or, at the very least, to be able to command-tab away from it. The game has the ability to display the high score list in a window, so at least some support for this must be in there already.

Here's an example of how it might be useful: I'm playing MM and want to continue, but I hear Mail make the email sound and I want to check it right now. But I can't unless I suspend, quit, relaunch, resume. Annoying.

Another example: as I was taking screenshots for my map of Freddy's Electric Maze, I realized that they would just be numbered, and I didn't really remember which was which. If I could have just switched away, I could have named them as I went.

Anyway, do I really need to explain why this would be useful? ;) Thanks for listening.

You probably didn't know, but that feature IS already there.

During full-screen play it is always possible to press COMMAND+P and when you then press COMMAND+SPACEBAR, the game got resized into a window. So you are even able to put MM in your dock for a while.

Hold down the Option key on startup to get the dialog box to appear that lets you choose how to play. You can select to use a Window here, although personally I find full-screen 640x480 much more engrossing and fun.

From the Documentation:
A Monitor Settings dialog at start-up allows you to select your preferred screen resolution. We highly recommend allowing Midnight Mansion to choose the preferred resolution (640x480), as this fills the entire screen, providing a much more engrossing gaming experience. However, you can also choose to leave the current resolution unchanged, or play in a window.
