Title: This Old Mansion Post by arevn on 16.02.2007 at 07:00:15
I'm about a third of the way through my next mansion, tentatively called 'This Old Mansion.' It's larger than 'Arevn's Mansion', but has about the same level of difficulty. I know that some of my graphics have probably been inspired by other mansions, but I've played so many that I can't remember if this is the case, or who inspired me. If I've stepped on any toes, please let me know!
I'm including a preview to whet your appetite. Cheers, Arevn |

Nice fireplace! You should put candles under it and only let the flame show and cover the rest with layer 6! Then it would look like a real fire instead of just lava! Oh, and it looks better when you put the end of the pole on. ;)
Looks fascinating. :) |

Well, erm, *blush*, I remembered that someone had used candles to make a fireplace at some point (you, I imagine now ;)) and I didn't want to 'plagiarize', so I came up with something more... sadistic. It's not so much a fireplace as it is an oven. The owner of this mansion is a bit of a monster, as I've surmised from the number of skeletons lying around this place.... Bwa ha ha. ::) The pole is fixed. :-[ Arevn |

Yes I did do that in that Jack Christmas thingy... But I think I got it from someplace els... maybe from one of the inclued mansions? Anyways... I reconize when you jump of the zapper beam on girders... I think it was from a room in Volcanis when you were going up or >> in the first part! But who cares, I just did it instead of lava to add that eye ball to make it harder. And... that bed... its from the House inclued mansion, right? ;) |
Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by Semi-Native on 16.02.2007 at 19:48:19
arevn, don't worry about using other people's ideas. All artists get inspired at least partially by others' works. It's not like you're copying big chunks of somebody else's mansion.
Your new one looks great. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] |

Someone else did the zapper beam girder thing? Ooookay. Back to the drawing board. :( As for the bed, it's not a bed, it's a lounge chair. :-/ Maybe this mansion wasn't such a good idea after all. While I think it's almost impossible to not get inspiration from somewhere, if there's so much in just one room that raises eyebrows, then I probably shouldn't proceed. Thank you for your valuable comments. Arevn |

No no no! I like this mansion! Looks good! Don't pack it up and into the trash! So what if you use other people's ideas, but who cares! Sooner or later, there will be no more ideas to use so you'll have to copy someone els' ideas! ;) Hopefully that day won't come anytime soon. I don't think it will with the expanion coming out with more features.

Arevn, read again what Semi-Native said and then please proceed!

Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by Wingy on 16.02.2007 at 22:36:58
Basicly what I said was the same as what Semi-Native said. Anyways... one things that you must do: Don't stop making mansion because you think you're a copy-cat! Well, everyone is if you do a little research! ;)
P.S. Hey, what do you know. This post seems to be my 203rd post! Past 200! Yay! :) |

I am going forth. Done too much and its too pretty to give up. ;)
Here's another preview. This is the room that should give the player a pretty good idea that there's something wrong with the owner of the house.... Arevn |

This Old Mansion is beaten.
Also, found a JS! Room 898. If you don't get the purple and red keys and go ahead up to the top level, you can't get back down!!! Fix this and send to a admin. Only found 3 secrets, and according to my calculations, there's 10 in total! ;) Anyways... loved how I got rid of the 100s of skeletons. Just felt so good luring baddies to their crumbling death! Good mansion! [smiley=beer.gif] Wait a minute... I'm too young to drink this beer...... well its right here, nobodys looking. Down the 'ol hatch!!! *Hick* Chars, *Hick* Woogy *Hick* ;D :P |

Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by aquaMat on 18.02.2007 at 16:00:35
Hi arevn,
I liked This Old Mansion... but I think the "difficulty level" is a bit strange.... it starts out very easy and then suddenly there are 3 or more pretty hard rooms... that is a bit strange. Other than that, I also have the feeling that there is something wrong with the secrets count... for example the very first secret is not counted at all (where you have to find an hidden vine). But these are minor things: it's a nico eld mansion ! :) |
Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by brell on 18.02.2007 at 19:40:45
Hmm.... I finished the mansion with 100% secrets. It is up to builder what he/she counts as a secret.
And which rooms are pretty hard? |

Looks like Brell found both the attic AND the basement, Wingy. ;) I make people WORK for the secrets in this mansion. Go play again. :) Arevn |

While it's true, brell...that it should be up to a designer what he calls a secret.... I just said I found it strange that the first hidden vine that leads to a secret area with money is not counted as a secret. I did not mean it in the sense of the secrets count being incorrect...which it is obviously not. And everything is very easy...until the room with several beige moving platforms, which in my opinion are pretty hard for a beginning player, and also one or two rooms after that. Well, that's just my two cents worth, anyway.... |
Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by brell on 19.02.2007 at 01:31:49
Yes, the moving platforms are pretty hard for the beginner but overall this mansion is of normal difficulty IMO.

Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by Semi-Native on 19.02.2007 at 03:28:47
Very nice mansion, arevn. I finished with 90% secrets.

Thank you, Semi-Native! If you finished with only 90% secrets, then you didn't get your full allotment of mansion. I'd go exploring again. ;-) Arevn |
Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by samskelton on 19.02.2007 at 07:46:40
I diddn't live to see the basement yet... >:(

That mansion was a LOT of fun to play- short and very sweet. Will you tell what the total $$ is supposed to be? I had 43.500, 100% secrets and 33 lives. Thanks!
|
Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by Freddy on 20.02.2007 at 09:21:26
First attempt: 90 % secrets and $ 42.300. Not bad for 3 o'clock in the morning.
You like ... books?!? |
Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by samskelton on 20.02.2007 at 09:38:04
I found the basement! There's a nasty case of fish down there, which are swimming in what looks like lava.1. I think you have a leak 2.You may think about a pest killer... ;)
|
Title: Re: This Old Mansion Post by Freddy on 22.02.2007 at 05:50:20
Got 100 % now. But "only" $ 43.350. ---> sherryl199, you are the master!
A very nice second mansion from you, arevn. :) |

The forum software indeed contains bugs. But to be sure if there is one about these, I give you the step-by-step. 1° Click on Profile 2° Click on Modify 3° Enter your password 4° Click on the tab Options 5° Enter your location at Personal Text 6° Click at the bottom on Change Profile 7° Finish with clicking on Home |

Humm, I just played this mansion and at first was stuck in Room 898. Just had to start over and learn my lesson to grab the keys first. I couldn't find anyway back down. And, like Aquamat I thought the moving wood platforms were hard and lost several of my Jacks before I realized the trick to making it much easier. Still missed 2 secrets and some money. Nice mansion. I enjoyed it. :) |
