Title: Game Data
Post by Lara on 25.02.2007 at 19:33:18
Hey guys,

Just thought I'd make a suggestion regarding all the different game data files for MM's with different graphics and sounds etc.

It's a bit of a faff swapping around the individual files so I decided to create duplicate game data folders for each set of files for MM's like Dominator and StarCraft. It has made it easier for me, and it encourages me to play the different mansions more.

Anywho, just thought I'd mention it. :).

I just had to delete lego star wars to get enough space to do that! Soundtrack's loops are very big! (3.9GBs and I only had 4.0GBs and each game data is 100 Mbs!)  :-/

Lara, you are idea is perfect ... as long as we have enough colours. Anyway, I will have a SERIOUS look at it, because I love perfection. And it reminds me also about a small error in the Read me first text of StarCraft.

It has to be females to come up with this ;D

I had a similar idea when testing Dominator. I did to Midninght Mansion folder: one for the original and "ordinary" custum mansions and one for Dominator and StarCraft. The latter I stripped down, that is clear out the original mansions as well as the "ordinary" custom mansions.

Cheers! :D.

The colours aren't really necessary though, it's just easier. And I like pretty colours. :).

Until she takes her avatar down.  ;) To tell you the truth, I only have 2 data folders! The original and Ted's! The StarCraft and Dominator is inside the original.  :) Like this....

Hey! Now I can look on Wingy's desktop !!!  :D :)

As good as your idea is, Lara.... but you still need to swop the Game Data folders, don't you ?
Of course, this is way less of a hassle than changing all the single files.... so it's an improvment !!

I have also used the color system, but have not different Game Data folders. I have the custom files all nested in the Game Data folder, together with one called Original Game, which I use as a "garage" for the original game data.
Whenever I change, I simply open 2 windows in the finder., that both show the MM folder, and then I can very quickly copy the different files back and forth without having to navihate to the hierarchy.

Yeah, so what if I play Worms 3D and Halo, and I like Eragon, what's your desktop look like, aquamat?  ;)

@ ryos:
You told us about Decorum at an other board. Two questions:
1° Is it possible to email it to me to have a look at?
2° Wouldn't it be a good idea to contact Vern (ActionSoft Support) directly, because it is maybe an interesting tool to add immediately in the packet of MM 1.0.8 or a next edition?

1) Which would you prefer, an email or a post to the boards? I must admit I'm not sure where I'd put it. In any case, I should have time to put together a release tonight (because my brain will be fried anyway :)).
2) No, not really. If he includes it, then he'd have to support it, and I doubt he wants the trouble. However, if he's interested, he's free to do so; I'm releasing it under the BSD license so anyone can do as they wish with it. He reads the boards, so I'm sure he'll find out about it, but I won't pester him about it.

Please put it on the boards. But where? Good question. Is indeed not obvious. I suggest a new topic "Decorum" at Custom Mansions Area / Art.
