Title: The Mansion Family: Mind Mines
Post by aquaMat on 27.02.2007 at 19:33:18
Dear friemds,

I want to inform you that I finished the first installment of THE MANSION FAMILY, subtitled Mind Mines.
I did that while taking a break during the testing of the Discotheque, and as it is a good deal smaller than the Discotheque, I've agreed with Freddy to release it first.
He is currently preparing it for release, but please keep in mind that he has 5 other finished mansions to prepare also, so please be patient.

But, to water your appetite, here's the story and a screenshot.

The Mansion Family: Mind Mines Story:
Jack is leaving  his modest house in the city to find luck in the hills.
He has heard about a charismatic guy who invites people to come live with him and his "family" in an underground labyrinth in the hills: the Mind Mines.

But Jack has also heard some "less friendly" stories about the man and the place:
some people in the city claim the place is long deserted, the family gone. A few voices even hint at darker things.....of creatures involved, of black magic and the family being not so nice at all...

Mind Mines is about 55 rooms or so, and does feature only very few real innovations, like Jack has to read a magic spell, and will then be able to walk several feet above the ground....but I like it very much and hope you will too.

Below you see a screenshot of part of the city.

The story sounds... scary...  :o What's the city's name, btw?  ;) Can it be wingy-ville?  ;D

Well. I had the honour to enter the Mind Mines yet. Shouldn't want that this city has my name. It is pure horror over there.  :-X

:)

I have the honour to announce the release of Mind Mines, the first part of The Mansion Family. This mansion is now downloadable from the three lists.

aquaMat will surely tell you more. E.g. how many episodes there will be ...

This is an amazing mansion!Could be my new favorite!! ;D How did you do the walking 3 feet in the air? I must know!!! It was AMAZING! If you haven't tried this mansion yet, I guarentee you it is superb. The only problem is it is a LOT like the underworld of the church... :(

I'm guessing that it's a totally transparent custom block. I never tried that myself, but it seems like it would be easy enough. Just make the whole PICT resource cyan.

Thanks for the compliments, Sam.
I'm gald you like it.

As for the magic spell:

What Psychotronic said is NOT the solution, although it maybe could have been made that way.
But: I guarantuee you: In The Mind Mines there is NOT one bit of custom graphics involved !!

That should be enough for a hint right now....let's see if you find out !

Is there more than layer 4 there? It's a great trick! It's not carpet is it? the purple one used as layer 4? :-? :)

Phew, got it! Managed to waste about six Jacks in the treasure area though ::)

Very impressive; tricky and confusing also but in a nice way :) I wouldn't have minded a bit more money though... (before the end, I mean)

I liked Jack's modest home :D And the  :o magic trick!

Thanks to all of you....!!

And to Sam: no there's no trick to make a layer invisible (at least not that I know of)  ;)

It's nothing too spectacular.....  comes the time I might tell you... but let all others play and see it for themselves first.

And also... first I'll have to try and see if I can come up with another magic spell in the next installment of The Mansion Family !!

Aaah...by the way (I forgot to tell you):

I have sent an update of MIND MINES to Freddy this morning (not knowing that he had already released it the night before), which has only one small, but important change in it (one key is replaced with a different color.... thus making the "way to proceed" towards the end a bit clearer....

So to everybody who hasn't played MIND MINES yet: I recommend you wait a little (Freddy tries to put it up later today).

And to all others:  Why not play again....  and watch out for the difference... and maybe discovering a few secrets you missed the first time along the way....     :)

I had a hard time finding Jack's feet... but I guess I'll see it now !

Why and HOW on earth did you jump there ?

(Isn't it possible to jump back ??)

Note:
I tried to duplicate that behaviour a second ago... and I could NOT jump to that spot at all, neither from the vine, nor from somewhere else !!!

Title: Re: The Mansion Family: Mind Mines
Post by Wingy on 11.03.2007 at 08:46:46
Well I got there. I don't know how, but I justed kept on jumping (about 2 or 3 jumps) from the top or abit down on the vine and bam- I was up there. I thought it was a secret!

Version 1.1 is downloadable now, but does NOT fix "Wingy's feet" yet. ;)

This update is however very important due to the change of a rainbowkey into a "normal" key, which solves possible unwanted complications. Re-downloading is a must!

Yea, we all do and will never stop making them. Hopefully we don't repete the same mistake to many times :D

Question: How can I get to room 15906 and get the map and money. I just found one way to get in to the room, up in its right corner but I can't move on from there without dying. :'( And when I die I reappear in the room above!

Title: Re: The Mansion Family: Mind Mines
Post by aquaMat on 12.03.2007 at 23:53:08
Hi Rose,

I'm not quite sure I understand which move you made...but I'm sure I won't give away too much when I say:
Room 15906 is entered from below.

That should be enough (as a hint), I think.

How you re-appear in the room ABOVE it, is beyond me.... unless you try to jump into room 15906 from above, which leads to your death (obviously)...which then of course results in your being reborn in room 15706 !!

You can be assured that I would NEVER design a forced suicide into one of my mansions....   :) ;)

Hi!
It is possible to jump and land without dying but Jack gets stuck. I'll try the other direction again. I have obviously missed the entrance!

@Wingy:

I couldn't play your movie for some reason....but I tried again from within the game to get to that spot where you got stuck.

After about twenty (!!) trials I managed to jump to a little hole (left of the vine) and proceed further up to the caveat where (naturally) you got stuck.   Jesus, you really must have been out hunting for a JS when you found that one !!   ;)
You must have jumped there right from the bottom (start) of the vine, even before climbing up..... only then it is possible.... and you found the one little loophole I hadn't closed !!

So..... I had to create an update and have sent it to Freddy... (I simply closed that one lopphole (=1 half-brick) now). as soon as Freddy finds the time I guess he'll put it up.

Wow you couldn't find a way for that long?  ::) :P I did it my first try! If I didn't find it, it would have been there forever.  :o

@aquaMat
I just discovered how you did the "magic spell" by accident, while working on my mansion.
What a nice effect. Unfortunately I can't use it for the room I'm working on. Now I have to figure out how to avoid it  :-/

Very nice mansion by the way.
I'm not all the way through jet, but I guess the exit isn't far away any more :)

HOW IS IT DONE!!!!? I must know.

Title: Re: The Mansion Family: Mind Mines
Post by aquaMat on 15.03.2007 at 00:03:22
Please give me a little time until I tell that one, simply for one reason: I'm currently constructing rooms for Mansion Family 2 with a trick that, albeit different, builds on the same procedure in a way, but is even better.

So if I told you now, the new thing wouldn't be as impressive anymore.....  (or even plain boring, like "yesterday's paper"...!!)  ;).

So please be a little patient...it's nothing that special anyway....  and frost...please don't tell it either.

After The Mansion Family 2, I'll explain both tricks.   :)

Thx.

Cute trick. Forgot about ___________________
Then I looked to the past and remembered.
I know too!

Impressive mansion. Love the non-linearity, non-horizontal layout. Kind of what I was after in Hopping Skipping.
