Title: Drowning in a Cup of Tea
Post by Toybox on 28.02.2007 at 01:17:07
Not sure where to put this...

Chase The 'Bots seems to rise a problem related to the custom-graphics mansions: shouldn't their names indicate what set of custom sprites they should be played with?

Indeed, we have the Starcraft, Dominator and Mummy sets, which their authors invited other architects to use freely for our own mansions. Aquamat just did it (cheers btw!) and now I realise: how am I supposed to remember that Chase The 'Bots is to be played with the Dominator theme?

I grant you that even with my poor memory this will probably not be an intractable problem yet. But what if there are more Custom themes and even more mansions for each theme?

Any suggestion?

You have certainly made a point, Toybox !!

What about this:  When somebody creates a mansion that uses a certain Sprites-set, like I did with Chase The Bots he should name it thus:  Chase The Bots (DOM) .....  or:  Example Mansion (MUM).

What do you think ?

Well, that could work (and Sam's colour scheme as well, albeit only temporarily as pointed out by Wingy). The (minor) problem is that it makes mansion names look less nice!

I guess we can also wait to see if subfolders will be allowed in the next update of MM  :)

Maybe I see it too difficult. But there aren't only sprites. Also backgrounds, music ...

What when someone starts mixing? :-/

Is this an answer to your recent ;) question?

Of course in combination with the fact that each listed mansion is uploaded WITH all the customized data. E.g. when you download the zipfile of Immortal Ruins you receive the mansion AND the 4 obliged backgrounds from Church.

I hope you'll understand that we, admins, can't do that for FU&Ds. For this type of mansions, the builders have to take care about that their selves.

It answers very thoroughly a bunch of questions, thank you  :D

But this would work only at the time of downloading, but a bit less if you play the mansion a year later. Well, as I said, drowning in a cup of tea  ;)

Don't you keep the stuff of a mansion all together in its folder? Maybe I need to show you a screenshot out of my Finder:

Actually I took care of that. I put the special data in a secured (read-only) subfolder in the Midnight Mansion folder. All extra graphics and sprites and so on go there, and there is a spare Original Set as well  ::)
