Title: Other games on your fruity machine
Post by Lara on 03.03.2007 at 17:03:31
So... what else do people play?

I'm quite boring when it comes to games, I like puzzles but hate killing games where you just run around and beat sh*t up. I often go to apple.com's downloads section and get some shareware. That's where I found MM and some other cool stuff. At the moment I'm mainly playing MM with a bit of Mahjong thrown in.

How's about you?

:).

I'm a big gamer... my games go up to... 7.96 GBs! (Worms 3D is 4.8 GBs)  :o  ::) Here's what other games I play. You better start trying them! Lara's games I've tried most of them, and I didn't really like them. Yipe III is a really fu - ny game for classic it's a RPG. Best thing about it, you can ResEdit it and change the bad guys and sounds! Download it at Yipe! Soft. (Google it)  ;)

P.S. I can guess what your background picture is. Flowers! (I think)  :D

Wingy, I can see you have WarCraft II folder dated 2006.  Is this an OS X version?

About Lode Runner:  I think it needs a lesser resolution and 256 colors.

One of my favourite puzzle games is Zep's Dreamland http://www.loomsoft.net/.

The only game that is nearly as good as MM, (and whose graphics are even better than MM, but you can't make custom levels) and which has given me hours and hours of fun...is  Bud Redhead.  I can only recommend it.

I don't like 3D very much.  I bought Bugdom 2.... it became boring faster than you could say cockroach.

I usually play my other games on the PS2 but I have a few reccomendations...

-Goofy golf deluxe is a great game, which is a mini golf game using a little of claymation. You can make custom levels and has an overall great gameplay.www.download.com/Goofy-Golf-Deluxe/3000-7427_4-914081.html

-After that I play roller coaster tycoon 3 and simcity. Those games are cool too.

I ran across a cool action game called Feeding Frenzy. Fun and educational!

http://www.gamehouse.com/gamedetails/?game=FeedingFre&navpage=downloadgames

Plus, the new breakout-style Professor Fizzwizzle game is good.

When Lode Runner starts, it says "Do you want to run on 256 colors or keep it like this" I always did 256 colors. Still didn't work!  :-/

And WarCraft II is a OS 9 version. I play it alot, but never save or make maps that modifies it since '06 I guess...  :P

I like games where you control people, and they build buildings to train men to fight for you, and you get resources, ect. (Like starcraft, age of empires, age of mythology)  :D

I noticed lara has mummy maze deluxe. I love that game! Never got around to buying it though so I deleted it.  :-[

I don't really like puzzle games that much. But there was a tropical island one (from www.apple.com/games/demos ) with shapes, I really enjoyed that!

Can anyone offer screenshots of their games folder?

Hmmm...some past favourites include:

PerOxyd and Oxyd series games
Akeyan Enigma by Soleau software
Myst (but I didn't enjoy any of the sequels, at all)
Jewels of the Oracle (not well-designed but I enjoyed the puzzles)

Mostly I prefer logic-puzzle games. I did somewhat enjoy Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, but it was a bit more violent than I prefer. (I don't know why archeology can't be interesting enough to design a game around, without the violence).

But, MM has the best replay value, by far!

Just out of curiousity... ToyBox, do you have an iMac? Because iMacs come with Nanosaur and Marble Blast! (I may be wrong, because there are other models from that time that had it)  ::)

Nope, it's an ibook. Well, I have an imac as well but I don't use it anymore (an old '99 purple model running Mac OS 9). I used to have Nanosaur 1 on it but no Marble Blast.

@ Toybox

My Mac predecessor was an iMac G3 in indigo. It's hard-drive was a pitiful 10GB and when I bought my first iPod my Christmas present from my Dad was some RAM So i could install OSX and run my iPod. :D.

And I did my Uni degree on that little 13" cutie pie so it served me well. And I got it second-hand off my department for £200 so I was very satisfied with it. :). Then I sold it on eBay and got £90 for it. Yay for me.

I was gonna put up a picture of it, but I can't find any. :(. Sweet little baby blue, I shall remember you with fondness

Yeah Scout !!

I also used to like Oxyd and PerOxyd a lot (in the old days).... never understood why it hasn't be ported (or upgraded) to OSX !!

Other games on my machine: (Although I have to admit, prior to MM I haven't been such a devoted gamer)

GooBall  (one of the few 3D games that is not instantly boring)
Brave Dwarves  (looks good in Demo mode....after you finished all the levels it very quickly gets boring)
CreepyMines 2  (= 3D)  pretty boring....the old 2D version was much better, albeit a little bug-y)
Armado  (quite cute for 3D)
Gold Miner Joe (platformer.....compared to MM it's a boring joke)

@Psychotronic:

Is "Feeding Frenzy" really good ??
I've seen it so often in MacGameFiles...and everytime - after I inspected a few screenshots - I had the feeling it's not worth downloading....  but if you tell me otherwise, I might give it a try ?!

I found it ridiculously fun. I'm a sucker for bright colors. But the demo lasts for 60 minutes, and I didn't end up purchasing the full version. I probably would have paid $10 for it, but $20 was too much.

A game I DID end up buying, and enjoying quite a lot, was Ricochet: Lost Worlds. www.ricochetlostworlds.com.  It's a breakout-style game, but it's just done so well, and there's a huge number of user-created levels kicking around.

A little further upthread, Lara provided a link to the remake, called "Enigma":

http://www.nongnu.org/enigma/

I downloaded this quite a while ago and then kind of ignored it since it wasn't really...well it just wasn't Oxyd. But I re-downloaded it this morning from Lara's link, and it looks like they've re-created ALL the Oxyd games for OSX (inside the "Levels" folder, they're all there).

It's not quite as elegant as the original, but it will do!

And thanks to Lara for the link.

The new PerOxyd is fun! I spent a few hours playing it this weekend. But I download BudRedhead this morning and I'm getting addicted to that. It's pretty much like Sonic but as that's a PC/Console game I never really played it. BudReshead is great though! And it's save points can be used again and again - wicked!

:).

Anyone tried the Heroes of Might and Magic (HOMM) series?  Too bad HOMMV only works on intel Macs  :(

I never tried it because I played the GBA version. It wasn't that good, so I never tried the computer game ones.  :P I saw screenshots, looks ok graphics, but I don't have time for it. Ever played Fable: The lost chapters? It only works on intel mac with Windows XP on. I beat it on my oldest bro's computer. It was realllly fun!
