Title: Room 15903 (help !)
Post by whitbear8 on 02.09.2007 at 18:27:31
I'm stuck! When I get to 15903, I have one red key. When I open the secret door, I pick up a blue key and another red key, still leaving me with one red key. That's enough to get me through the first normal door, but not the second. Am I missing a red key somewhere else in the mansion? I've found them in 15702 and 16702.

I wouldn't normally ask but I've played section 4 around 20 times now and it's getting frustrating :-[

Hi whitbear8,

SPOILER ALERT!!!!  I can't seem to get the unreadable yellow text anymore which we used to do for hints, so I'm warning that there's a specific hint below.

EDIT by Freddy: Below, there is really some text which is now white. You just need to highlight it, to be able to read the hint.

When you're in Room 15903, did you get the red key sitting on the middle level? It's possible to get that key without climbing up to that level.

I am not sure if you have had any help with this yet or not, but if not, I am sorry we missed it.

Go back down three rooms, and look in the ceiling.  There you will find a surprise!

Hope this helps,

Hi - I cannot get that final red key - I go up the broken ladder and jump to try and get, but I just cannot.  Any hints please?  For example, how to manipulate the controls so I can get the key?  I do find this kind of thing frustrating - it takes away enjoyment of the game. >:(

Matari, when you jump off the ladder, are you holding down the Up arrow and the Right arrow at the same time?

Hi

Yes I am - and i just can't reach it. Perhaps my keyboard just can't give me the distance.  Very frustrating.

Hmmm, that is strange. Well, as a last resort, you could use a cheat. Hit the Esc key to pause the game, then type "gimmie red" and you'll get a red key. I know you don't want to do that, but if that's the only way you can continue...

Matari, are you really meaning room 15903?? Because I can't see any broken ladder there.

Yes - i went up the ladder to the room, went left to get two keys and then had enough keys to open all the doors apart from the last red one.  Then to get the final red one i had to climb what i think is an invisible broken ladder - or a bit of a ladder and jump to my right, but high enough to get the red key.  it is this jump that i just can't do.

Are we not forgetting to hold down the space bar (for jumping) as well?

Matari:  The ladder is not broken.  You are in the ladder with Jack in a climbing position.  Now press and hold the right arrow, the space bar and the up arrow in this order.

My controls are set as x = space bar. I can honest say that I have tried EVERYTHING and just can't get it. Like I say maybe it is my keyboard

Just wanted to say thank goodness for this thread. I was having the same problem, and with knowing Freddy designed this section, I knew there was some puzzle to solve the key issue.  ;)

It is good that an old thread saved your day instead of having to start a new one.

Freddy's puzzles are indeed challenging and thus great fun but as you say they tend to become easier when one has solved a few.  Apart from that he is one the best puzzle makers among us builders IMO.
