Title: YABB 2.2 software installed
Post by YaBB Administrator on 19.11.2007 at 06:33:48
After many hours wrestling to get it to work, I think I've gotten YABB 2.2 installed. Hopefully everything is working. The old forum templates are gone for the moment.

Hope this fixes some of the problems the old forum had!

Well......  it looks wonderful, very bright and fresh, and I like how you can see who is online in each area, and that it says hello to you when you log in.  (For me it said 'Goodnight', but it is only dinnertime here in BC, Canada, but all you europeans are safe in your warm, cozy beds!)

Fantastic work, thanks for all the effort you put into this forum, it is great. :D

Nice. Even shows offline and online status for each person! Neat. But the modify button wont let me modify... it says that some of the places need to be filled or something like that. Strange!

Will the forum templates be back?

Oh and Im with sandybean on thanking you for your effort! Did you encounter lots of problems?

Can you NOT modify your own posts?

Test, please ignore

Uh oh... I was on windows mode when I did my last post. Just tried to go on the forums in mac... got a message saying: 404 File on Server where not found! :o

And yes, brell, I couldnt edit my post... it said that all the required fields must be filled in...  :(

Is YaBB 2.2 making it better or worse?!

I have found a problem, not sure if it is just my system, or if others are having it,  but I cannot open any pages to download Custom Mansions. :-/

When I go to the page for the individual mansion, or even use the quick route on the top left of the forum page for 'the newest CMs' I get the message "404 cannot find, the requested file does not exist on this server." :-[

thanks,

SandyBean [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Never mind about the server 404 thing... I book marked the forum with www.actionsoft.com/forums/YaBB.pl, but since the update is in, its now something different.

I would've modified my previous post, but it said the Subject field needs to be filled... and it is, as Re: YaBB 2.2. software installed, but it still won't work! :(

Title: Re: YABB 2.2 software installed

Sandybean, I think the admins will have to change all the address that lead to other forum pages, because the address to the forums is longer and more complex now since 2.2 is installed!

And yet again, I would've modified my previous post to put the above in but it wouldn't let me again.  >:(

Yeah, the admins will have to fix some of the shortcut links. In the meantime, just go directly to the download section in the forums. That should still work.

With 2.1, I know the system had a rule about when and how long a member was allowed to modify posts. And the Admins could change the parameters.

Give us a little bit time to check all those things, but please, do not hesitate to report this kind of odd things over here. Thx.

Hi All,

Just to clarify a couple of things.  I can now use the quick link on top left of page to get to download page for those two mansions.  If I use the forum section for CMs, I get the 404 message.  So, things are improving! :D

I also tried to modify my earlier message, within minutes of posting it, with no success.

As for the time zone Freddy, I kind of enjoy knowing what time it is over there in Europe, since a lot of our members are there.  But you are correct, I did not change it to my time zone when I made my profile.  ::)

That's it from me, hope the feedback helps,

Thanks

Although there are probably a whole bunch of improvements with the new forum software (although I have to still find out which), I must say there are also many disadvantages & confusions:

The whole appearance is very confusing. Operation has gotten harder instead of easier !
The fields in which you type your posts are smaller now, and there are less options within direct reach, e.g. the font colors are far less than before.

I also feel it has gotten much more difficult to see (at a glance) if there are new entries to a thread or not. The changed font sizes and overall color scheme is pretty tiring for my eyes, and also there is too many information per square inch, IMHO, in other words it looks a bit cluttered, crowded.

Maybe it just needs getting used to......??!   :-/    :o    8-)

Title: Re: YABB 2.2 software installed
Post by Wingy on 20.11.2007 at 23:03:52
Yes, I feel that the posting system is a bit more difficult. But the color thing is much better... I don't need just 20% of red and 40% of blue for a post, just a solid color. That is much better.

The post size is more compact, which makes it look a bit neater, but it is harder to use.

Yes, while you're scrolling down, it seems that the new post icon isn't flashing, so you have to stop, and it will start to animate again.

I'm sure this can be changed if we make another theme/template, because I think the flashing blue button is just a .GIF file that is animating. We can change that to a not-animating picture that is a different color so we can see it at a glance better. (Such as orange, if the theme/template is blue so it will stand out)

Hi group, ;)

I know the admins are working hard to fix all the new little bugs with 2.2 Yabb, so I am impressed.

Just a feedback update;

It is now possible to modify one's post, as Wingy and I can attest to.

Mansions can be downloaded through the post; Download Mansions by Designer, and the above left new CM's.

The other posts for downloading CMs (Date and Name) still show a 404 notice.

As for color of text, if you click on the palette icon, you can have a mulititude of colours to choose from.

I agree the new message window is smaller, but that is only a problem for people like me who have 'verbal diarrhea'!!!  Most of you guys are pretty to the point and succinct in your messages.

that's it for my ongoing input, and thanks to the admins for doing such a wonderful job! :D

1° Isn't posting on MMF not like making emails? Based on how I work, short stuff is made directly, while long texts are prepared in e.g. texteditor. I don't need to defend Yabb 2.2, because it isn't mine! But the improvement that, when replying, the previous posts ALWAYS stay visible, even after refreshing preview, is more than enough compensation for a window that is (a little bit) smaller.
2° One extra click to see all colours. That is right. But, when you click, you see ALL possible colours at once. While in version 2.1 one needed to scroll ... Mmmm. I should call this an advantage. But that is a personal opinion, of course.

Title: Re: YABB 2.2 software installed
Post by aquaMat on 23.11.2007 at 22:44:54
Freddy, I agree with most of what you said (by now)....although I have to admit, that
A) the small size of the window still bothers me a bit. Especially as there is no obvious reason at all why the window shouldn't be bigger

and

B) what disturbs me most is that the whole appearance of the site is now much more confusing and tiring on the eye. It's no fun anymore to simply browse through the pages....
I feel the design looks like web-design from a bygone era !  Just look at the "headers" on the top of the page (Home / Help / Search...etc.). They used to be very visible and look like "buttons", now you really have to look twice to find them. Plus it has a typesetting that's far from elegant..... Looks like my 1978 typewriter, in fact!

But apart from those two factors (and probably a few others I haven't yet discovered), I can appreciate all the small improvements!!

However, I'm still not sure if the worst bugs of the old version (i.e. the "cancellation"/vanishing of posts etc.) have been addressed at all with the update.
One thing is sure, however, I didn't get my "vansihed posts" back (=the post count has not been corrected)....  :D  ;)

(Yeah I know....never expect miracles from software !   :))

I never had any hope that 2.2 would bring our disappeared posts back. But it is indeed very disapointing that, after the upgrade to 2.2,
the counting of the current posts is still wrong. E.g. frost with 5 posts is ... a Newbie with ZERO posts! >:( ::) I am looking for answers and inspiration on the YaBB-forums. To be continued.

Btw, we also have problems with the templates, so any changes of the layout of the boards will have to wait for a while. For this issue, Vern is trying to find a solution.

>:( >:( >:(
I just found a very unpleasant way myself to correct the wrong counting of the posts. I will first try it out on myself. But I can not promise that I will do the fixes for all forummembers. I really prefer to wait a little bit if it can be fixed in one move.

The manual way is this one. I need the password of the member (and that is the only reason that I test it on myself) and then ... I need to count all posts one by one on all boards. Finally, as admin, I seem to be able to correct the wrong number of posts.

Thx for doing it, brell. This issue was standing a little bit lower on my shortlist. For the time being, I am "cleaning up" the boards and meanwhile ... ::) ... counting my posts.

You mean you might be able to make all my missing posts back? I had like 550 before that weird thing when the posts disappeared happened...

Then I'd have my status as Expedition Leader back! :D

Well first you'll have to do your counting, Freddy... Good luck with your... counting... I hope this works.

Title: Re: YABB 2.2 software installed
Post by Freddy on 24.11.2007 at 20:30:36
To have no misunderstandings:
1° the really disappeared posts are NOT coming back;
2° the counting of the existing posts on MMF may get corrected SLOWLY.

Don't underestimate what I'm doing right now. It will take me many hours, only to check if I am able to correct my own number of posts.

But if it works, somewhere in future, you'll be Expedition Leader again.

No, I didn't have those hopes either, realistically..... (that's why I put smileys behind this remark of mine....)

I think I may have found another small glitch :o

When I am NOT logged in and try to view the posts in "Talk: Temple of the Gorgons" I get an error message, indicating I must be logged in to do this.

I have not had this problem with any other topics. :)

When I DO log in, I can see the topic and posts of "Temple of the Gorgons" fine.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Thanks,

I don't know about settings; I use the following URL:

http://www.actionsoft.com/forums/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?action=recent;display=30

With Firefox, all I have to do is typing "acti" and the whole link gets suggested for free  :)
