Title: Only a test
Post by Freddy on 02.12.2007 at 04:47:48
:-/

Till Joe comes back to do serious layout work, I have tried to improve the standard look a little bit. Simple question: is it better or is it even worse? It is YOUR boards, not mine, so please give me your opinion.

:-[ And no, I don't know how to remove that yabb-thing in the header. :'(

Help !  I can't find my Sunglasses!  8-)   It is too BRIGHT when one is not logged in !

Fine and good when I logged in, but before that , hard on on the old eyes.

Good try though, how about some soft pastels, like lilac and sage?
(Just a woman's point of view!) [smiley=bath.gif]

Thanks,

Sandybean [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

What browser are you using, SandyBean? With Firefox (t)here is no difference between before and after logging in.

I am using Safari. :D

I have Firefox for my hotmail, but find it too slow for other stuff :-/
I will try it though as an experiment.

Strange that it can show up different colors on different browsers.

thanks,
SandyBean [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I checked Safari and didn't see any differences.  :-? :-/

It is the same for me in Firefox,  bright yellow background when not logged in, and soft blue after logging in.

Prior to this (like earlier this morning) it was the same soft blue background whether I was logged in or not.

Thanks,
SandyBean [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Aha! I see. With "default" yabb 2.2 means like it looks before logging in. But when when one wants to experience the new look AFTER logging in, each member needs to make his/her choise manually!

Now. Go to User Panel > Profile > Options, enter your password, and at the question Which Template choose for MMF. No sunglasses needed, I think. I hope ...

No Help there,  here are the results;

                          Logged In;             Logged Out;

MMF option;          Yellow                    Yellow

Forum Default;      Blue                       Yellow

Old YaBB 2.1;       Blue                       Yellow

All that changed was the layout of certain things, like where you can download new mansions moved from top left to top right of header, ect.

Hope this helps,  off for an hours walk in the snow with Murphy.

Good Luck,

SandyBean [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Is perfect. When choosing MMF before AND after logging in, you have the new look. What does NOT mean that the look is good ...

Anyway, no one is adviced to choose the former 2.1 look.

@ Joe: I saw somewhere else on the boards that you are already "a little bit" back. Glad to have seen that. Welcome back! :)

Since a few weeks our forumsoftware got an update from 2.1 to 2.2. So we all saw the standard yabb-stuff again. What I am doing now is just playing with the templates till it looks, in my opinion, better than the yabb-stuff. But, the serious "work" I will leave for you. If you are still interested in this "job", of course.

Well ... everything was better than the standard yabb-logo, isn't it? But I'm proud that I did find out how to do it.

Maybe I am just getting old, or am used to living in country darkness with stars to guide my way, but I am still finding the new MMF option colors too bright for my eyes!!! 8-) :-?

I know Freddy is trying to duplicate the colors for MM of blue and yellow but for me, I would prefer less contrast.  Just my opinion.   ::)

You guys are doing a great job (and a lot of work) getting the new update tweeked perfectly.  Thanks.

OK, me and my eyes are really happy now, the colors are soft and easy to look at, the font is larger (better for us older folks) and it seems less cluttered.

This is using the version MMF in the options section.

WUNDERBAR !!!   :D :) ;D :D :o 8-) ::)

Great work, and thank you,

SandyBean [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Comment on MMF temp:
Hey, it would be better if you had orange circles that didn't animate instead of that old one we used in 2.1. The folders didn't have to be changed either, they looked better the way they where.

Thx for your constructive reply. But I am afraid you have to keep in mind that my knowledge is rather limited concerning this stuff.

Like I did understand it, on the homepage the images of "the folder" and "new or not new posts" needed to be changed together. So, it is either the 2.1- or the 2.2-look. I prefer the new 2.2-look, but I must agree with e.g. aquaMat that it has an important disadvantage. Whith the 2.1-style, when scrolling down the whole MMF, one sees IMMEDIATELY where the new posts are. While with the 2.2, one has to stop scrolling a few times, to be able to know if there are new posts.

I really don't know if the images can be replaced by others. E.g. keeping the new look for the folders and adding something completely else to show the difference between new and old posts. Although no orange circles, IMO. Maybe Joe will later find an answer on that question. Anyway, I do hope so.

I am seeing the NEW icon at the beginning of quite a few posts throughout the board tonight and some are from way back to last January.  Has something gone awry?    [smiley=huh.gif]

Have you been gone for awhile or not on the forums? The admins and Vern worked hard to get the newer version of forum software! Yes, there where some changes. The icon is new in the default template/theme of the forum, but on the MMF template/theme the icons telling you if new posts are in or not has been changed back. Why? Because it animated when there where posts in on default template/theme. When you where scrolling down, you couldn't see if a new post was in at a glance. With the icon orange, you can see it clearly and it stands out so you know just like that.

Does this answer your question or where you talking about a different icon?

I'm new to the boards, Wingy, and missed out on most of the conversion discussions.  This is what I was referring to.  Thanks for your comments.

I don't think there is anything wrong Jackie. When one is new on our forums, the software "knows" that you haven't seen ANY of all topics, and tells you that they are "new" for you.

It would be worse if it keeps on telling you that those topics are new AFTER you had a look at them. If THAT is the matter, please tell us!

You are right, of course, Freddy.  I had read the messages before in Guest mode so when I started logging in they all turned up as New.  Duhhhhhh!   :-[
