Post by Lara on 21.08.2008 at 05:53:03
Who do we have here on the forum? We seem a disparate group, am I right? Represent your flag!

All hail the former colonial power that is GB/UK! I want the Euro - pretty pictures on the back of the coins!

We Germans aren't too hot about waving our flag, at least not the "good ones" of us. Something to do with the past.

Anything that has even the slightest smell of "national pride" or something like that makes me feel very uncomfortable.

So I won't do it.

Semi-Native, yup that's Ahnold. Or as he's commonly referred to here, The Governator.   ;D

Hey aquaMat- feel free to wave your flag! Every country has bad things in their history, but it's OK to take pride in the good things.  :)

You can represent it without a flag, too.

Hi Lara,

interesting that you know that word....

But actually it's "Schwarzwälderkirschtorte" or maybe the correct spelling would be "Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte" (= in 2 words).

Schwarzwälder meaning "from the black forest".

BTW, the best thing that ever came from the Schwarzwald is not that cherry cake, but one of the greatest gifts Germany ever gave to the world, the famous record label MPS (= Musik-Produktion Schwarzwald).
MPS is regarded by most international experts, collectors and DJs as Europe's best jazz record label, and existed from roughly 1963 to ca. 1980.

Many world famous jazz musicians recorded for MPS, including Oscar Peterson, Dave Pike, Freddie Hubbard and also of course the creme of the German and European jazz scene.

I did German in school from 12 to 16 and then some German modules at University. Not that that explains which I know that... :D

My favourite German phrase is "Ich habe keine unruhe".

English stuff:
