Thank you Missy, I think this one makes a lot of sense and is pretty scary, considering we've probably all done some of these things.

Mmmh... When you get a story like this it is always wise to look it up at snopes.com:

http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/plasticbottles.asp

In particular,

Q: What do you make of this recent email warning that claims dioxins can be released by freezing water in plastic bottles?

A: No. This is an urban legend. Freezing actually works against the release of chemicals. Chemicals do not diffuse as readily in cold temperatures, which would limit chemical release if there were dioxins in plastic, and we don’t think there are.

In other words: don't be scared! :)

Of course, in case of doubt, just drink beer  [smiley=beer.gif]

Thank you again for the snoops.com site.  I will check with them before I post in the future. ;)  But I will NOT take everything that they say as Gospel either!

Glad to be of service! And very wise it is in general not to take anybody's word as gospel, too :)

And thanks for the links, too  [smiley=lolk.gif]

For reusing I like glass bottles.

Apart from that, I do keep a (plastic, I confess) bottle of water in my car. If I get really thirsty and far from other sources of water I can still drink some, but the real reason I have it is to use in the engine anyway (windscreen water or cooling water, if needed).

If I'm preparing a long and hot car journey, I take a fresh bottle of water, because otherwise I would most probably forget to replace the previously mentioned one, and if it has stayed long in a warm boot it tastes terrible. Not to mention I had bought a brand which tastes terrible anyway  ;)
