Title: Blowin' my own trumpet ?
Post by aquaMat on 13.07.2009 at 20:18:54
Yippeeee !!
This is my post number 1000 !!!   8-)    :D    ::)

And as I'm usually not a guy who blows his own trumpet - unless I have something meaningful to say  (ahem.... :-[ ) - I'd like to use this post to tell you that I have started work on (yet another) new mansion called

                         BROTHER FROM ANOTHER PLANET.

Jack is in space!!  He's flying a spaceship that has somehow caught fire, though..... so he must use his ejection seat to escape the flames.
He's catapulted out and makes an emergency landing on some alien planet......  where everything's a little bit different.

More I won't tell yet...... and - please - don't hold your breath, 'cause it will definitely take several months of building time.....

In the meantime..... I'll have a bit of that bubble liquid and celebrate.  :D   ;D

Space? Interesting. Are you going to use custom backgrounds, like what JoeB and I used in our spacious mansions?

Fiirst of all...... thanks to all of you (and for joining the party  ;)  :) !!)

@ Wingy:

Of course I'm fully aware that I'm not the first one to try a space-related theme.... you two did that long ago.

Also - even though I do use custom graphic elements occasionally - I am nowhere near as talented as far as drawing etc. is concerned....and therefore my mansion won't be as completely "other-worldly" graphicwise as the ones done by you and JoeB.

I will have a few custom bits, but mainly I will tweak the existing tiles and sprites into working for my theme.
For example - I have built the first sequence, including the burning rocket and ejection seat parts, entirely with standard building blocks.
And it looks (and works) fine.

But - please don't expect too much..... it won't look like  StarCraft or Dominator.... those mansions managed to look like a completely different game !!!
On the other hand - this will have the advantage that BOAP will be instantly playable - without the need of swopping files etc.
(After all - unfortunately this was the reason why I never again played Dominator or StarCraft after the first few times....... one has to always think of changing the Graphics and Sprites files first.)

Thanks cool Aquamat. I'll be curious to see what you come up with! The imagination of designers is limitless! (Well 30,000 rooms... well...)

In my opinion, Starcraft was pretty lame. The Adventures of Ted will be the really comical graphic-wise, making it pretty cool, especially with Expansion pack working with it. I can't wait for the Exp. Pack to be released, I want to see what other designers can come up with with all the new features!

I feel a bit guilty.....   :-[    ::)     8-)   ...so many weeks & months have passed....

And although my latest (classic MM) mansion
"Brother From Another Planet"
is finished since about November 2009 now, I have waited until now to finally let it be released. In the meantime it has been improved a bit, a few changes here & there..... and extensively beta-tested by Rose.

BUT: It is still a very hard mansion..... and that's also why it took so long. Following the pre- and post-Christmas 2009 period, where I had deliberately not looked at it (to distance myself from any over-familiarity with it) I have taken it out again in ca. February and played it anew, with a bit of a "newcomer's attitude" and found that - indeed - several rooms where simply too hard.

While it is still very hard now (although much less so than in February), I have started to make a "normal" version of it.
This easier (say: normal-to-hard) version, however, will be released only a few weeks AFTER the release of the standard ("hard-to-very hard") version of BFAP.

I will send this one out to Freddy and/or Brell later today for an official release later that week.
There will be an accompanying "ReadMeFirst" file, giving you a few tips about BFAP, and how to best handle it.

So I hope you'll still like my (not so new) new mansion..... and for those of you who are a bit less experienced, I'll recommend you wait a few weeks until I'll release the "normal" BFAP.

Thanks & greetings,
aquaMat

Goody, can't wait!!!

Freddy hasn't been around lately, so you might want to send it to brell or me for the quickest upload. Not sure how busy Anthony is right now.

It will be nice to test something new :-) I'm ready to look at a different mansion than I've been looking at for the past month or two. Looking forward to a challenge.

Would you like any feedback on it at all? Jack stucks - that sort of thing?

This mansion has already been tested but anybody who finds some issues that the builder and/or tester(s) have overlooked should report it to the builder.

Yeah....well... I apologise for being kinda "extra hard" in this mansion, occasionally - but I also beg you (+ recommend) not to lose patience (+ faith) too early on..... eventually you will get 'rewarded' for your perseverance with
a) extra money
b) additional save pedestals..... and...(best of all)...
c) that wonderful feeling of pride & satisfaction with yourself for overcoming what - at first glance - might strike you as "un-solveable hardships" in BFAP.

Thank you all.
8-)      ;)

Oh....definitely !!

But - before you report anything - keep in mind that there's often a hidden solution ...... try everything first !!

Save Pedestal 2 was so close, Jack could see it and smell it! But alas, he lost his last life after pulling the lever and falling in the lava.  :'(

Loving this mansion. It certainly is challenging!

Whew ... finally made it to that darn Save Pedestal # 2, after like thirty tries !  My Jack thinks there was some pretty rough and tough stuff in that section!   [smiley=shocked.gif] He got to rest a bit at Save #3 though.

Thanks for making such a challenging Mansion, aquaMat !   Were going back in now ...

So that's my problem. I've only tried to get to the 2nd Save about 10 times and was giving up.  :-/  And that was just in one room. I've just got to try another 10 times or so to get there.

Well Done Semi-Native !   Going back in now.  If you can, let me know how my Jack's doing for $ at that 3rd save?

Thanks,

Ya, Catwoman, there was a really tough room in that section till my Jack figured a way around some of it.  Let me know if it might be the same room, and maybe I can help !

Thanks,

SandyBean [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Congratulations, Semi-Native !!!

That is really something - getting 93% in your first complete run-through !
Even I - after playing it a zillion times during building & testing - am hardly ever finishing with more than 93 %.  (I guess I've only managed to get 100 % two or three times....out of 40 or more !!)

@Catwoman:
When you say "2nd save" are you referring to the one pictured in SandyBean's post below your post ??

'Cause that is really already  SAVE 3 !!!

SPOILER: The real save 2 is a bit hidden.... somewhere in the East.

Title: Re: Blowin' my own trumpet ?
Post by Catwoman on 19.08.2010 at 08:53:04
Yes, it is the 2nd save I'm trying to get to.

Sandy, it was room 17306 where I kept killing Jack. Once or twice by being too curious.  ;) I finally got out of there, but now have a red and a green key and can't figure out where to head next. I'm currently in 17507. I thought I'd tried jumping, climbing up or down, but I'm not finding a path or the doors.

Stay in 17507, Catwoman, and try again.

I am just absolutely stumped here. I have tried looking for a lever, dived to my death, jumped, tried to go down, up everything. I have been stuck for over a week and am finally giving up and stopping the game. I usually don't have this much trouble. Uncle. :'(

*spoiler*

In 17507, the white brick next to the pole (make sure Jack jumps up there, too), is the way down.

finally finished  -  whew!
only 76% secrets, though, but Jack needs a long rest after all of those difficult jumps before going back to try to find what he missed.

many, many thanks Aquamat!   another super fun, challenging mansion.  really looking forward to the next one.

Thanks a lot -
for all the nice comments about BFAP - and congratulations to those who managed to finish it !
To all the others: Please don't lose faith.... !   8-)   ;)

I'm so glad to see that there are at least a few of you playing & enjoying it - I feared it would get lost among all the MM2 release hysteria. (BTW, in spite of all the fancy new things in MM2  that I like so much (like mult-room elevators, T-triggers etc.) I often find it very refreshing to go back to the somewhat "simpler" but very rewarding world of the classic MM. That's also why I still like designing classic mansions !)

Sorry if I haven't been around all that much lately and couldn't answer some of your questions personally.
I was still busy with finalising the Trigger Island release version and also had a few other things to take care of.

Sorry to announce that tomorrow I will leave for a 12-day trip to Frankfurt - and although I might be able to drop by from someone else's computer now and then, I won't be able to do much more in terms of problem-solving since I won't have access to my mansion files.
But please keep on reporting - or asking questions.... !!

Thanks & greetings,
aquaMat

I'm glad to hear you're still working on MM1 custom mansions. I often go back to the classic game because it's still so enjoyable, with so many CM's available to replay.

Have a good trip, and hurry back to designing!

WoW !

Not sure why, but we left BFAP on save 5 a long while back, maybe couldn't find the way to go?  Not sure, but it has been terrific these last few days finding our way through, and all the exciting stuff.

I sure love an aquaMat Mansion !!!

Thanks !~
