Title: New mansion series coming soon
Post by negative zero on 04.09.2010 at 09:03:45
I making well more like remodeling an old mansion from the first game game only one person may know about this it is one of the admins.the original mansion was named lunar temple but I will be renaming it soon.

No images are out yet but will be soon.

When it's ready to be beta tested I will announce it.however be warned when it's ready it will probably be 4XL

Lunar Temple was never released because it was full of Jack Stucks, cheap deaths, etc.  Freddy and I, the admins at that time, tried to contact you to ask you to have the mansion tested, but you never answered.  Hence the mansion was never released.

As long as it's not as hard mansion I'll volunteer for beta-testing when you're ready.

Zero, what Freddy and I saw of Lunar Temple was very promising, indeed.  Would you like to:

1. Convert it to an MM2 mansion (and perhaps add some of the new features) and have it tested

2. Have it tested as an MM1 mansion

3. Or do you want to discard it altogether (which would be a shame IMO)

I'll also help beta-test Lunar Temple if you'd like.

I'm working on three mansions for MM2. One will be the X-Hard version of Dr. Demented's Den. It was originally the Hard version, before I made it easier. That will probably be the first one out since it was rather exhaustively tested before I took a machete to it.

The second one is 100% new (entirely my own creation), and the third one if I'm able to pull it off will be a spin-off of DDD Hard (but probably at Normal level). I'm going to try and replace Jack with the "helpful goblin" and perhaps add some other static goblin "character/sprites". I expect that it's going to seriously tax the limits of any artistic skill I have. Hopefully, it won't be too bad since the helpful goblin already has the animation necessary to climb ladders and pull levers.

I'd like to have a few mansions set in a large goblin kingdom (with lots of goblin puzzles) of various levels that reuse some of the graphics from the third one since I expect it will be a big effort.

Zero, if you want to have it tested and uploaded as an approved custom mansion, you must advertise for some testers and then send the mansion to them, instead of posting it here.

You can use the forums to tell your beta testers your updates, but I would suggest to use e-mail only seeing you might give something away, and that's the way beta testing usually works.

Sure thing Rob, that way we can cover all the bases.

You have sent the mansion to your testers via e-mail, right?  Then you should communicate with your testers about the mansion via e-mail and not here.  Then, when your mansion is thoroughly tested and in your and your testers' opinion, ready to be uploaded, you should send it to one or more admins.

Well... for one thing, I was unable to start the custom mansion within the game as a custom mansion. When I try, it is simply grayed out and I'm unable to select it.  Also, it still has the icons from the first game which seems a little weird. If the mansion editor was already open and I double clicked on the mansion, I could see it in the editor. Oddly enough I couldn't simply open it in the editor directly.

I did try to reply back via email to mention the issue, but so far I haven't heard back, yet.  I also sent a message to Catwoman and she's having the same issue.

Zero, send one copy to me and another to Anthony.  Maybe we can figure this out.  (I'll be away for a few days but I can look into it if needed when I come back).

Resend it via email but first make a zip file. Sometimes Mac resources get messed up via email and zipping can prevent that.

I changed the type and creator via MacCT and still couldn't open it in either the builder or the program. After downloading mine didn't have any icon.

Zero, your original file didn't have an extension on it, but I assumed it was an archive anyhow, and tried to treat it as one. I was able to open it and I ended up with a file with underscores for the name and the older icon. That was the file I was able to get into the editor. I think the only step I missed was the full conversion process.

Update: I have a working mansion file now, and sent the modified back to you and to Catwoman, along with an initial set of comments. More coming soon.

Rob, do you think you have solved that problem for you, Catwoman and Zero?

We have a working file that we can test now. Looks like the mystery has been solved.  :)

Well, Zero must work on the copy you sent to him and not on the one with the wrong resource ID.

Title: Helpful goblin series

Rob, a spin-off mansion where the player controls the helpful goblin, instead of Jack, sounds awesome! Can't wait to see how this plays out.

I think my ambition may outweigh my animation skills. My thought was to try and adapt the helpful goblin with a slightly different look (to sufficiently distinguish the character who would be standing in for Jack) from the built-in helpful goblin, which would still be used within the mansion. It seemed like it might not be as big a stretch adapting the helpful goblin character rather than creating an entirely different character from scratch because many of the various moves have already been created.

Instead of a yo-yo... perhaps the helpful goblin player might have a paddle-ball, and other minor changes.  It really gives me a greater appreciation for all the in-game art! If nothing else, it's kind of a fun idea...
