Title: Jack vs the Lion
Post by mick on 07.03.2011 at 15:50:13
Mac OS 10.7 is coming soon. It will not run PPC applications, such as Midnight Mansion or Midnight Mansion 2.

:'(

What's going to happen?

Apologies if this question has been addressed elsewhere; a quick search didn't give me anything, but I may not have used the right keywords in the search.

Thanks.

That's something Vern will have to answer, mick. That's a good question.

You don't have to update your system just because a newer MacOs is being released!

I'm sure Vern will release a version quite compatible with 10.7, don't worry about it, Mick. ;)

I'm still on Leopard (10.5). My philosophy is, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
8-)

The philosophy of "not broke/don't fix" is a good one, and I agree that people aren't usually required to upgrade their OS just because it's available.

There are those of us, however, that are required to do so.

If the game(s) remain PPC coded, MM and MM2 will end up on a peripheral drive that I have to boot into if I want to play. That will make playing much less likely to happen.

I'd hate to see these fine games (and they really really are fine) turn into legacy apps.

I'm sure that Vern is working on a new version that is not PPC; I also know that it's not a simple thing to do.

Pretty-good rumours have Mac OS 10.7 coming out in a few months or less.  I hope that's enough time.

:)

Hopefully Vern will see this and respond. I'm sure he's aware and working on it.  8-)

I have it on good authority that a fully Intel-compatible version of Midnight Mansion will be out before MacOS Lion. :)

In fact, it will have quite a few surprises in addition to running fully native on Intel Macs.

Mick, you can have one computer for MM and one that you can upgrade! :)

Yikes, I didn't even realize it was PPC-only until I tried to play tonight - first time I got bit by the Lion.  Even though I was fully aware it would happen eventually - and probably with a game.

Hey, it's been a while... anyone know if MM2 will ever be playable on Lion+?

Sadly, I'm not holding out much hope. I wish someone who knows how to program would take over and develop a level builder for Lion. If I could, I would, but I don't know how.

:(

Doesn't MM-HD run on Lion?

Hi Josephine, yes MM-HD is the only one that runs on Lion, but those are MM1 games that were converted. MM2 was never converted for Lion, and there's no level builder for Lion.

Thanks Semi-Native, I'm still on the spotted cats so Lion hasn't been an issue. I have a few partial mansions built, been trying to decide what (if anything) to do- finish each one as a small mansion, merge the good rooms into one, etc. If the MM1's can be converted for HD then it's worth finishing them  :)

Definitely worth finishing, not least for all the players :D
