Just curious. It's so sad how this community has died out.

I'm still here....and going through the CMs playing them again (and again !)

It would be so wonderful if folks would be creating new mansions, they can still be built and also converted to HD !

Hope everyone's doing well  :)

thanks,

I'm here too, every now and then, hoping for a new CM... I have Lion so I don't have a builder  :'(
Thinking of installing a partition with an older OS just to be able to build but since I work a lot (130%) and my gf also works (60%) and we meanwhile have to take care of our 1yr old son (1000% :) running around, emptying cupboards and climbing furniture) there's not much time left to build... Perhaps next year will be better (less work for all of us and perhaps some daycare)

Hi Olle, it would be great to have a new CM from you. I have Snow Leopard on a partition of my backup drive, so I can still play and would be able to build if I was so inclined. I'm just not very good at it.

Sounds like you have a VERY busy life!!!
;D

busy indeed, but it's not that bad anyway, I like my job as well as crawling on the floor chasing my kid :)
But I wouldn't mind a new mansion, of course. At least I'd get 10.6 just to convert Luris to HD, guess it's the hidden lever bases that's complicating things, but I think it's better looking that way

Hi all! I'm definitely still here, just been revisiting all the old favorites. And playing around with the MM2 builder. Don't anybody get too excited though, I only have 12 rooms done- not enough for a whole mansion. But eventually...  ;)

Hoi hoi hoi.

It may surprise you all. But I'm here as well, trying to become in the MM-mood again.

Recently both my computers (power and intel) did "crash" in a completely different way. The hard disk of the power mac did burn. So it seemed to be out of use. But I re-installed 10.4.11 on an external disk and, because the screen of the power machine is still doing well, I can work and play MM again!

The intel machine suddenly did hesitate and then stopped. And every time I did try to restart it, it stopped after about 5 seconds. At first I hadn't the slightest idea about what was going on. Till at last I did find out that the electricity plug in box for my computer and external disk got broken. A new one brought life back, but since that time I don't have internet connection any more. >:(

Therefor I went out to a bistro where they give free use of a mac. I have free use since it is ... my mac! ;D :P The power mac with the burned hard disk!!

Hi Freddy, it's so good to hear from you. Ugh, computer problems!  >:(  Hope you get everything fixed soon.

I saw your MM&M question in the other forum. It's only if you're running Lion or later that you won't be able to use the level builders or play MM1 and MM2. Sorry, I can't answer the HD questions you had. Hopefully Rob or brell will see it and answer for you.

I keep checking in, in hopes some one has taken the bull by the horns and ran with it.  I would be willing to donate some $$$ like $100.00 or more. I know thats not much, but if 40-50 would donate, it would be a start.

And if not, how much $ would it take.  Lets raise some money to keep this alive.  "Just thinking"

I still come here from time to time, but mainly to see if there is any news on the iPad port.
Unfortunately, running on Lion has prevented me from creating my newest mansion, it's done this for so long, I can't even remember where I put the CM file. Also, I am now super busy with my second year of college, I just started work and I'm desperately trying to find a boyfriend. It's all chaotic in the life of Leon Fletcher laugh out loud xD

If that's the main thing that's stopping you, I may be able to help out. A while back I was helping aquaMat with a number of his mansions. It stalled out because I think both of us got busy with other things.

Many of his mansions have levers like this, so I created new versions of the MM HD levers that do not have a base, and added a slot, so it looks like the lever is sticking up through the ground (or whatever surface it rests on). I could make these available to you, but you would still have to move the levers up so they are where Jack can get to them. The overall appearance is pretty close to what it looks like when they are "buried".

I also still have an old builder that works on my old laptop, which I will probably never upgrade.

That'd be great, to be able to play my other mansions in HD

Sorry, but I'm afraid I already have my hands full in that department. :)  Between that,  work, commute, my studies, chores, and occasionally some sleep, I have very little time left over. Also, I missed whether or not you had access to the old mansion builder on an old version of the OS.

I do have the old mansion builder and an older OS, although that computer is at work where I never am nowadays but in principle anyway :)

All right, let's see what we can do to get Luris working for HD while retaining as much of the original look as possible. It shouldn't be too hard. We can continue this discussion under the Luris board. I still have my notes from when I was helping convert mansions.

I was afraid that was the problem.  Too bad for us,  all the designers were great and so creative.  I was always amazed at how creative you all are, way beyond my imagination.

I am having a problem with Midnight Mansion HD Episode 1. I dont know where to put the mansions I download so that HD will find them to play?  Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

There should be a folder called Midnight Mansion HD Custom Mansions in your Applications folder (or wherever you have the MM HD game application). They go in there. If you can't find it, you can create one.

OK. I converted Luris for HD and it's out there ready for download. It had been a very long time since I had last played it, and it was even harder than I remembered - not that that's a bad thing. :)  I forget how I got past the second room. I suspect that it involved an old exploit that I used to use which I know has been patched.

Anthony, what are you studying?

Sorry to take awhile to get back to you. I am taking physics, biology, chemistry, psychology, philosophy, calculus and statistics. I am also working in a chemistry lab doing research and have an undergraduate research paper to write (which in itself consumes time equal to that of a course). So I've been busy. Today was a university holiday, so I've been slacking off today. I am surviving. I have not yet declared a major, yet I am considering psychology, neurology, biology and immunology/microbiology.

One thing that is different than taking the regular science curriculum is the small class size. We started with about 80, and now we have about 65. Some dropped out the first day, some within a couple weeks, some after exams.

We also get to go on field trips. Most of them have been geological, and I had the option to take earth sciences as well, but opted out, seeing as my ambition to do something in the medical field would have little relevance to rocks.

But yeah, I didn't disappear or cease to be, just quite busy. :P I am glad to see those few faithful to MM are still kicking at it and enjoying the variety of custom mansions. Do keep on with it, it's a great hobby, and it makes Vern happy.

Just bumping the thread  ;)  I suspect a lot of people drop by without signing in (like I do) just to see if there's anything new.

Well, there is! After hitting a wall (and getting sidetracked by life) I'm back at work on a new mansion. Official announcement coming soon...

I haven't logged in in a long time - I really miss MM. Even the member "fights" were fun. For a while it was one heck of an involved community.

Title: Re: Hello? Anybody still here?
Post by josephine on 04.08.2014 at 16:33:09
Hi guys! Yeah it was a fun community (funny, I don't even remember the fights ;D )

I have 2 full mansions in progress- MM1/HD and MM2. You know how you get to a point where it's not complete but you're not sure what to add? Like adding more rooms won't necessarily make it more fun or cohesive, just bigger? That's where the MM2 one is. So it's on the back burner "percolating" until the MM1/HD one is finished.

Which won't be long, 'cuz frankly I'm getting tired of looking at it lol

That's great, I'm here a few times a week (I do log on, automatically) just to see the last posts, especially if there's any news on the builder… :)
Don't remember the fights either so I guess they weren't that bad.
Anyone around the Bay area in late september? Going to Berkeley for a week's work and could enjoy company over a coffee or dinner or something :)

Oh man. So many great memories on the forums from way back. I remember when I first stumbled upon the MM forums after playing the game for the first time. I believe it was a different scene entirely, as in, the forum had an entirely different website, with cool custom MM buttons and such.

The years after the forums came out on ActionSoft's site, which I remember to be quite the day indeed, and the mansion building contest for MM2, and the various dramas and fights, etc. All the while new mansions came out with different artistic and creative feel, puzzles and fun. I can't say I've played all the mansions that were created by folks, but I did play the majority. I remember when I attempted to create an entirely-custom graphics mansion (Adventures of Ted?), but never had the time to put into it to finish it. I made maybe 30 minutes of playtime and aimed for like four hours. I wish I finished that. That would've been fun. Shame it'll never happen now as graphics are now in higher resolution. Anyway.

I joined this website in 2006. I don't think you guys realized how young I was. I was REALLY young. I was in grade 6. I was 13, there abouts.  ::) I just turned 20, going into 3rd year university, and still have very fond memories of MM. I rarely have time to do much on the forums now, not as much as I like. I wish the community was vibrant as it once was, but due to the level editor (as mentioned before in Future of Actionsoft post) only working on older macs, there wasn't much to keep it going, other than the more committed and older members.

I booted up MM the other week and had great fun with all the memories. Such a good game.

Just wanted to share those thoughts.

I do remember how young you were. Remember I gave you the app ColourIt? I still play MM several times a month. When I play bad I know its time for bed!  ;D
Just now I am replaying PACI-FRAK EXPRESS! I am on Snow Leopard. I love the OS eventhoug I do a newer Os.

The problem is that if we have upgraded beyond 10.6.8 we don't have a builder anymore.  Let's look at the options:

1.  Stay on 10.6.8, an outdated system and use the builders that came with MM1 and MM2

2.  Upgrade the system and play MM with MM1 HD.  Then we don't have a builder and cannot make new mansions.  This is actually the only option for Windows users.

3.  Make a 10.6.8 disk partition and reboot our computer everytime we want to play MM og build mansions.

4.  Boot into 10.6.8 with a virtual machine (perhaps Windows users can do this?) to play MM2 or make mansions.  This is a VERY slow option and I myself would never bother making a mansion this way.  However I sometimes use it to play MM2.

So what we need is a HD builder to be able to make new mansions and restore our community.

I dual boot (actually I have 3 different OS's plus Boot Camp, and a PC for adventure games.)

Hey Anthony- maybe you'd like to upload that unfinished mansion in the free area?  ;)

Hence does anyone know anyone who would be able to rewrite the code for the existing Builder to make it trans-10.6.8 executable?
Preferrably for free, but I believe a lot of members here would give a minor contribution for expenses
