Title: MM games for Mac Sierra and above. Post by Donna Shelley on 22.02.2018 at 01:02:43
Help! I've played MM on my G4 and 5 no problem. But I'm on Sierra (10.12) and High Sierra mini macs now and I cannot get my Midnight Mansion/Midnight Mansion HD/Midnight Mansion-Haunted Hills games to play. They display a circle with a diagonal line through it. What do I need to do to get the "intel" versions of Midnight Mansion/s to work? Thanks in advance....:'(

Hi Donna- offhand I think MM will only run with an emulator. This has been a topic of conversation before, maybe someone who has done it can chime in.
If not, when I have time in the next week or two I'll see if I can get MM running in Sierra. The forum isn't as busy as it used to be, but keep checking back :) |

Hi Donna,
Someone posted a link several weeks ago in one of the other forums about this issue. You can read up on it. Note that the article is over a year old, and there are newer versions of the suggested software: http://www.techradar.com/how-to/how-to-run-old-software-and-games-on-your-mac I tried Parallels and it didn't work for me (El Capitan, I couldn't get sound to work), but I'm going to try Fusion soon. |

You can get Snow Leopard Server DVDs on ebay for $25USD. Also- Fusion is on sale right now for $64. Or you could pick up an older Mac Mini super cheap (seriously, there's one with a starting bid of $6 :o )

Strange. The HD version should work

Yes, Midnight Mansion HD is the version you want. The red circle with a line through it means that the game is for PPC chips, and needs Rosetta to emulate it. Rosetta was removed from OS X many releases ago --OS X 10.6 was the last version that came with it.
Midnight Mansion HD was a total rewrite of the game that runs fine on modern computers. Or at least it used to... I haven't tested it on the latest OSes. Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills was never upgraded to HD, so the only way to run it is with emulators or by rebooting with OS X 10.6 or earlier, as others have pointed out. Some day I hope to upgrade it to HD too... |
