A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

Aah.... the magic spell !!

Thought that was long forgotten...BTW, it was in The Mansion Family: Mind Mines....  I know I promised back then I'll share the secret.... now considerable time has passed, so I might be able to do so:

For that trick I have NOT USED any invisible bricks at all (and, unfortunately, I'm afraid building invisible bricks is not possible), but I created the impression of walking in air with the use of a layer trick.

I'm not even sure if I remember the correct order of proceedings, as I worked pretty long on that...trying out different things until it really worked..... but I achieved the effect by first adding bricks in a layer other than layer 4 and later removing them again.
The setting of the "fringe" is essential.

BTW..... some of you might remember that (shortly after the release of TMF 1) I announced The Mansion Family 2, which I was building already back in springtime. TMF 2 featured the then-novelty SNOW and ICE and there I also wanted to introduce another "magic spell" trick called "The Northern Lights" (which, incidentially was also the subtitle of TMF 2).

Unfortunately I never finished building TMF 2, as I was never completely satisfied with the snow landscapes (for which I got a little help from JoeB., who lshortly afterwards introduced snow in one of his mansions). So I abandoned the project (for now).
(It's a shame...as I'd really would have liked to show you the "Northern Lights" trick...  Sad   Cool)

You might be interested to hear that currently I'm working on TMF 3, working title "Parachutes"....which will also introduce an innovation. TMF 3 is already close to being finished, so it will definitely be released before TMF 2 !!

Do you remember whether you used a lower or a higher level bricks than L4?

Did you remove some of the fringe from layer 3 or something to get rid of the generated fringe or something by using the black nothing-ness tile on the fringe? Was that a part of the process?

I actually do remember this (alas....I'm givin' it all away.. Cheesy  Wink):

I first added a second floor in layer 6 using "Fringe ON". Later I removed that floor, but somehow (that's the part I really can't remember exactly anymore) removed it with "Fringe OFF", theoretically leaving the fringe in the picture. Of course you CAN'T see "fringe only".
Due to some bug in the software, you now step onto that floor, even if it is already gone....giving the impression you were walking on air.

After I stumbled upon this effect / bug accidentally a while earlier (where I had removed a single "layer-6 + fringe" brick), I tried to recreate it in TMF for an entire floor.

BTW, I also experimented with layer-3, but that led to nothing.

Yes, I know.... that this sometimes happens... but it is not "meant to (be used)" officially, and - at least durring my experiments - didn't always look like that. Sometimes you remove the brick front, but not the fringe (for whatever reasons) but still the fringe is gone afterwards.  And that's the way it should be...e.g. in layer 4 it has to be always like that. You remove the brick (front is selected only), and the software "knows" it also has to remove the resp. fringe.
