A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

wow! your mansion is really great! You've inspired me to try custom graphics, but then again- I have a HUGE amount of problems with them... I think I'll stick with the plan- wait until the expansion gets out, and then make a custom graphic mansion.

Oh, I just have troubles with the white stuff in the editor a small bit... By the way- how did you get rid of every white bit in all your graphics? I always have like three little pixels or something ridiculous... (yes, I have made sure all the blue in the background is the exact same color) I don't  really have too many others. Wait- actually, in the sprites, how do you know exactly where to place the other sprite's animations in the file? (like in the skeleton spider, there's three drawings representing the animations) I mean, there's no lines or anything separating them.

AHA! The fake white problem. Somewhere in the Custom Graphics forum is a thread about this. I don't know what you're using to edit but Photoshop or ImageReady are my choices. When you select white you are looking for pixels that have a color value of 255,255,255 (RGB). So a pixel that is 255,255,
254
may look white but isn't. Therefore it gets left behind when MM is making white pixels transparent. Not all sprites and graphics use AQUA (0,255,255) and the critters sprites fall into this category.
Lining up frames of an animation can also be done with Photoshop/ImageReady by adding an extra layer that contains lines which mark where each frame should fit. When copying them to the clipboard just make the grid layer invisible and do a CopyMerged. I'm sure there are other graphics packages you can use but PS is the most powerful and widely used. For instance I use ToonBoom Studio, Manga Studio, DAZ Studio, Poser and modo to do animations. They all make the image alignment process much easier at a cost.
If you fall into getting frustrated you can always send me the graphic and an idea of what the issue is and I can try to fix it or at least tell you how.

Hope this helps!

Woop woop! You guys rock, you make coolio mansions. Currently getting to save point two, I got all the way through the underground bit to the bouncing eyes room and then started messing around and being arrogant and got myself killed. Silly Lara!

But it is now 12am so I'm going to go to bed...  Grin
