Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills,  includes 28 mansions. The 8 Built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. We don't have that many other custom MM2 mansions yet. Design your own custom mansion! Info below.  You can find out more about the game here.

The original Midnight Mansion game contains over 150 mansions. The 8 included mansions which have 3 difficulty levels each, and about 115 approved custom mansions which you can download here and also several freely uploaded mansions. To know the difference between these three types of mansions, click here.

Are you a creative person and thinking of designing a mansion yourself? Or want to know about how to upload it? Click here and we'll show you! You'll find guidelines for betatesters here.

News:
Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills version 1.0.2b has been released. This fixes a bug in Jasperlone Mountains Hard. Simply re-download the game, bring over your custom mansions folder from the old version and play on. All your saves and high scores will not be changed.

Midnight Mansion HD (MM1) is now available at the Mac App Store and at the Actionsoft website. A Windows version is now available.

Here is a list of downloadable MM1 HD ready custom mansions, which also work in the Windows version of the game.

The MM2 custom mansion Hanging Gardens of Babylon by Freddy/SandyBean/Josephine/brell was updated on 19. Nov 2023 to add a fourth section. Available here

Shield kills medusa heads?
07.01.2010 at 05:35:42

I think it was an oversight on my part, that shields do not permanently kill the female medusa heads. I am looking to get this changed for the sequel, but am wondering, if I changed it for the original game as well (next version), would this cause problems with any existing mansions?

Second question: when levers affect conveyor belts (either direction or start/stop, I forget which -- maybe both), the "action is default room state" checkbox does nothing. Again, if I were to "fix" this, would this mess up any existing mansions?

As far as I remember, neither will affect my mansions.  If it does I will fix it.

Yes it would, Vern.

I always thought that it was a "feature" (and done on purpose) that the shields kill one kind of Medusa heads permanently and the other not and I (and I think many other designers) have used this feature creatively.... like using/choosing the sort of Medusa head in a given room depending on whether they would reappear or not etc.

So, please please, leave it as it is....at least for the "old" game.  Otherwise it would destroy more than what we would gain.  It's much more fun as it is now, too !

I agree, I think it's more fun to have both types.

I think that one kind of Medusa never permanently dies was a kind of feature.  Or at least I'm pretty sure I agree with others here that it works well as a feature.

And "action is default room state" ... it's possible a checked a box along the way to see what it did, found out it did nothing, and so ignored it.  Possible, but not totally likely.  Still, probably someone did that?

It would be best if it actually worked as it should, at least in the sequel.

I just saw "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" last night. It's an "okay" movie, but I enjoyed the special effects and found them inspiring to make me want to make games that did some similar things.

One thing in the movie is a medusa head where they show the eyes of the medusa head to anyone they want to turn to stone. Which got me thinking to Midnight Mansion 3: maybe you should have to approach medusa heads from *behind* (otherwise you turn to stone just for looking at her) to kill her. Then, when she dies, she falls as a dead head to the floor, which you can pick up and carry around. Then you carry that to some other large monster that is blocking your path, and turn it to stone.

Haha. Way too much work for my simple game (and probably make it too complex for current players), but a fun idea nonetheless. Wink
