Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills,  includes 28 mansions. The 8 Built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. We don't have that many other custom MM2 mansions yet. Design your own custom mansion! Info below.  You can find out more about the game here.

The original Midnight Mansion game contains over 150 mansions. The 8 included mansions which have 3 difficulty levels each, and about 115 approved custom mansions which you can download here and also several freely uploaded mansions. To know the difference between these three types of mansions, click here.

Are you a creative person and thinking of designing a mansion yourself? Or want to know about how to upload it? Click here and we'll show you! You'll find guidelines for betatesters here.

News:
Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills version 1.0.2b has been released. This fixes a bug in Jasperlone Mountains Hard. Simply re-download the game, bring over your custom mansions folder from the old version and play on. All your saves and high scores will not be changed.

Midnight Mansion HD (MM1) is now available at the Mac App Store and at the Actionsoft website. A Windows version is now available.

Here is a list of downloadable MM1 HD ready custom mansions, which also work in the Windows version of the game.

The MM2 custom mansion Hanging Gardens of Babylon by Freddy/SandyBean/Josephine/brell was updated on 19. Nov 2023 to add a fourth section. Available here

Saved games - odd behavior
30.08.2010 at 04:15:08

I've noticed that not all my Saved games go into the Saved Games folder. Some of them are winding up in the MMHH folder and some are in my Games folder, which is a sub-folder I have under Applications.

Has anyone else noticed this happening?

That happened to me because I mis-clicked on my folder and it saved to the custom mansions folder instead of the save folder.

Your save folder is here:

/users/(your user)/Library/Application Support/Midnight Mansion 2/Saved Games/

Just find your way back there while saving your next game, and move all your games in your custom mansion folder there and it should save to the saved games folder from hence forth.

I didn't click on my folder at all. This happens while I'm playing the game without stopping. The game will start out saving to my Saved Games folder, then mid-game it will start scattering them around. It's weird.

This happened to me throughout testing and I just thought maybe it was just me, or maybe it was because of all the different game versions I had scattered about.

This is definitely annoying, and has resulted in me inadvertently saving games in different locations, or going to start a saved game and having the dialog window come up in the wrong folder.

Now that I know it's not just me, I'll come up with series of steps that reproduces the problem. It happens often enough, I think it should be easy to repeat.

Yeah, it happened to me during testing, too. And like you, I thought it was maybe just because it was a beta. I guess we should have reported it, huh.

Question: before you save your game, when the save dialog box is open, does it show the correct destination location? And then saves to a different location than you selected? Or it randomly shows a different spot, and you click OK not realizing it chose a different spot?

Weird either way!

You know, I never pay attention to what the dialog box says. I'll do that next time I play. But the weirdness hasn't happened recently, the Saved games have been behaving for me, even before the update.

It seems to me like the game and the level builder interfere with each other. For example, if I bring the level builder up by itself, it goes directly to the custom mansion folder.

However, when I do the following steps:
- Open up game (builder not running)
- Try to open a saved game, cancel out of dialog
- Open up Level builder

Now the dialog window is not in the custom mansion folder, it is where my saved games would normally be (for the player who is currently playing within the game).

I've also see the level builder interfere with the game in a similar fashion causing saved games to be put in the custom mansion directory (or whichever directory I selected a mansion for editing). I don't have the precise steps ready for that case, but I'm sure it's happened.

Thanks for looking into this Rob. I will definitely have a look.

Unfortunately though, it will have to wait until the Midnight Mansion port is ready, which is likely some months away. Otherwise, I'll have to fix the bug in both the "old" code and the new ported code.

FYI, this all will most definitely be fixed in Midnight Mansion HD!
