Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills,  includes 28 mansions. The 8 Built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. We don't have that many other custom MM2 mansions yet. Design your own custom mansion! Info below.  You can find out more about the game here.

The original Midnight Mansion game contains over 150 mansions. The 8 included mansions which have 3 difficulty levels each, and about 115 approved custom mansions which you can download here and also several freely uploaded mansions. To know the difference between these three types of mansions, click here.

Are you a creative person and thinking of designing a mansion yourself? Or want to know about how to upload it? Click here and we'll show you! You'll find guidelines for betatesters here.

News:
Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills version 1.0.2b has been released. This fixes a bug in Jasperlone Mountains Hard. Simply re-download the game, bring over your custom mansions folder from the old version and play on. All your saves and high scores will not be changed.

Midnight Mansion HD (MM1) is now available at the Mac App Store and at the Actionsoft website. A Windows version is now available.

Here is a list of downloadable MM1 HD ready custom mansions, which also work in the Windows version of the game.

The MM2 custom mansion Hanging Gardens of Babylon by Freddy/SandyBean/Josephine/brell was updated on 19. Nov 2023 to add a fourth section. Available here

Game runs slowly
04.09.2011 at 04:15:09

The new HD versions of MM1 HD are GREAT, but the speed of the game slows down significantly for me when Jack enters a room with alot of activity (lava, birds, etc.).  the game is then slow as molasses after that (the speed of the game, if that's what's displayed in the upper R when using command + D, is about 20 - 27).

this has happened in all of the mansions that Jack has explored so far (either in full screen view or when it is smaller, about 1/2 size).  suspending the game and resuming does not resolve the problem, only quitting and restarting after suspending the game seems to fix the problem for a while until things slow down again.

in case it helps, the computer is a MacBook Air running OS 10.6.8 with a 1.6 GHz processor (2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM).

Could you give some specific mansions and room numbers where this is happening? (i.e. where the slowdown first starts)

The irony here, btw, is that my 1.2 GHz ppc Mac runs the game just fine -- apparently faster than the new MacBook Airs. That's disappointing.

just a couple of examples -

started Tomb of Princes Normal from the beginning, then got to room 152977 and the speed dropped to 31, in the next room (15298) it was normal again but going back into 152977 it slowed once again.  proceeded along then at normal pace but when Jack entered 15292 the speed dropped again to 37.

started Castle of Doom normal, when Jack entered 16500 the speed went down to 46,  in 16301 it was 49 and then in 16500 the speed varied from 27-39.  in between these rooms the speed was ok.

so, in these quick examples the speed was dropping in select rooms but in previous times as the game goes along everything eventually slows down.

(PS the Air is about 2 yr old so there i would expect/hope that the new Air would be faster....)

I've spent all day yesterday, and am working more today, on speeding the game up. I've seen good results so far, and am hoping that will continue once I finish today's optimizations.

If that turns out to not be enough, I'll have the game automatically remove sprite-based shadows (the ones that move dynamically) when you enter a slow room. This should allow it to again run full-speed, in combination with the optimizations I'm making today.
