A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

Catacombs HD
18.01.2013 at 21:29:17

OK, this has been asked repeatedly in the past, but not lately so here goes: Now that we have HD is anyone interested in picking Catacombs up again? I have a small mansion that could be modified to fit (dual booting so I can still use the builder.) Not to jump ahead of anyone (Olle and aquaMat were next in line, if they're still interested) but it seems like people still want to play the "oldies." What do you think guys?

I'd be all for it, but I'm not sure of the logistics of getting it done. Freddy used to send an original Catacombs file for builders to add on to, then I think he took care of uploading the finished file.

I hope somebody chimes in here that knows a lot more about how to get it done for HD.

Yeah I read the Hd converting instructions, it sounds fairly easy since Catacombs doesn't have any custom graphics. But if the original file isn't available maybe I'll just give my small mansion an ending and call it done.

The rules Freddy introduced for Catacombs were 10 rooms with $15000.  I guess he has the original file.  One must have the original file and the mansion builder, which only works in 10.6.8 or older versions of Mac OS X.  Then after adding the rooms the file must be duplicated for backup and at last converted to the HD version.

A little off the exact topic, not for HD, but there IS a start to Catacombs for MM2, that Freddy made the first section of, and I have made a second section with some tweaking and input from Freddy....way back when we were all excited about the contest and all the folks were building and creating with the new effects and creatures and goblins and Such !!! Roll Eyes

Freddy called it the "Hanging Gardens of Babylon" and maybe someone could check in with him also on this potential jump off point for a new catacombs for MM2 ???  Cheesy

Just a thought...

thanks !

SandyBean you've been holding out on us!  Smiley  Wink

Seriously though, I'd be into doing that too. If Freddy can't or doesn't want to continue the series he started maybe we could use your MM2 mansion as the first section? Let's see if we hear from him.

I'd love that, too. We seriously need some new mansions to play.

I have the first part of HGoB and it is very promising. Haven't seen Sandybeen's input.

But we' need 10.6.8 or earlier to keep on building.

Hi Brell et al,

I can try and send you the HGoB, part 1 (Freddy) and part 2 (me), but honestly have totally forgotten how to do this?  Zip file, email, all those things Freddy used to help me with as I am pretty computer 'illiterate' ~  Huh

If you could email, PM or let me know the steps to sending it, I'll gladly pass it along  Smiley  but please also would need a beta tester for my section (part 2) as I was just learning the new tricks, sprites, platforms and options on the new MM2 builder when I made it.

Thanks,

SandyBean  Smiley
