A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

And if you can't get it to work, you can still play it with the regular graphics. Not what the designer would want, but at least you could play.
Cool

Wingy, I've been enjoying your Starcraft Episodes very much, and am amazed at what you've accomplished with the graphics. But I have to confess that once it was posted that the game could be played with the original sprites, that's how I had to continue playing. Only because us older folks have difficulty seeing with lower-contrast graphics. ShockedP

I don't get it. Are you only confused about the graphics because its all grey-ish? Ted will be better. It's going to be colourful and best of all it's comical, witty, droll, humorous, wacky, waggish, entertaining, hilarious and jocular! (Don't ask me, I got it out of a Thesaurus)

He's talking about the same principle that lets the yellow spoilers work. When two colors are close enough together it becomes harder to tell them apart (especially as the eyes age).

What this means in the context of Midnight Mansion is that if there is not enough contrast between foreground and background, then some players may have to squint to tell where the platforms are!

I myself tend to focus ahead of Jack and watch him with my peripheral vision. With low-contrast graphics, though, that doesn't work. I found this out while testing the early Dominator betas--I kept running JAC off platforms because I couldn't tell with the corner of my eye where they ended! But then the amazing joeb fixed it, and all was right with the world.

Don't worry, there's going to be a blue sky background, and there's a fire background, and there's a forest background. I have a brown platform for the fire place, so I think its ok. But I suppose I should make a yellow platform... You've seen my screenshots, they're not THAT low contrast, right?

Just to make it clear... its Ted, not TED. It says TED in my avatar because I want to get the message through! Tongue
