A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

aquaMat,

You and wingy will be 2 of the folks getting it on Friday. Haven't heard back from suztours but I'm sure she'll want to beta. I have a sequel (actually Matt's already drawing up new rooms) on the boards. Forest moon of Endor type battle with speeder cycles, AT-ST, etc.

Oh, by the way, no copyright issues here. Graphics are from freely licensed content, music and sounds done by Matt and me.
DAZ Studio, Bryce, Photoshop, Garageband, Soundtrack Pro, Finale 2007, Audacity.

When I made my StarCraft custom graphics I used:
PhotoShop CS, Color it!™ 2.5 and of course, ResEdit.

I was very simple with mine, but in the future I hope to make something really good with Bryce. I have Bryce 5 around here somewhere... I think its on my dad's G5!  Wink

Looks very facinating. I only edited the menu screen and winning screen!

I think the blizzard entertainment wouldn't bag me for a very minor custom mansion series... I'm not selling it, am I??

P.S. That droid in the last screen... looks like the one in StarWars Ep. V... the one that the big starship sends down to look at the ice planet and han solo blows up... and the main character looks like the main character in Robots movie but just red! Shocked

I downloaded the Lightwave Probe Droid object from a free Star Wars site and used DAZ Studio to render it.
JAC is also from DAZ Studio, he's called Chomper. I bought him on special for $1.99. I have another model, Klank that looks closer to the Robots robot but he didn't look as good when I shrunk him down to the size needed for the game.

Thanks Freddy. I'm assuming this is the correct procedure for getting a mansion released? Also, at what point does it get it's own topic? I foresee tons of questions on the graphics, sound and play.

Thanks again,

Joe B

If I may:  YES, this is the correct procedure.  We give a mansion its own topic when the thread grows to 4-5 pages or around 50 posts.

And an other good arguement for a seperated BOARD for a mansion, is if there are so much topics about a single mansion that it becomes confusing. (S)PoG is going that way ...

Rose,

I sent you a PM.

I now have my beta testers so I won't be needing any more. Hopefully I can get a FULL release of Dominator to the admins in a week or so based on the issues the betas come up with.

Thanks all,

Joe B

The Little Professor (Matthew) decided to redo the end game rooms, about 10 of them, otherwise I could send it tomorrow. I still might. The sounds will be incomplete and none of the signs will be in place describing the new graphics so I'll have to write something up explaining them. A lot of the graphics are self explanatory but can be confusing until you get a handle on the color. The thing that I want the most feedback on is the sound. This is my first attempt at editing the sound and I want to make sure I got them right. For instance, on the zappers, which are now electric force fields, the sound has a low pitched component which I personally think sounds GREAT when you have a decent sound system hooked up. I have HK SoundSticks with a sub woofer and the low end is pretty cool. But there is a little minor pop when they turn on which I find a little annoying but others might not. While you're all looking at the game I'll be working on the sound and signs. I'll keep you posted but it looks like the end of the week. Don't want anyone missing work or school to play. I can do the mansion in a little under 90 minutes but I know it.
