A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

Need some advice for beginner designer
01.08.2011 at 18:51:02

Hi,

I just got into playing Midnight Mansion (HD– I'm in the beta), and I've started dreaming about making a mansion of my own. I was wondering if anyone had any advice about mansion design for someone who is completely new at it.

Thanks~

Hi.  You should start by reading the Level Builder Documents in the Level Builder Docs folder that came with your MM application. That is pretty much where everybody starts.

When you have built a few rooms you should ask us to test it for you.  It is much better to give you advices having a mansion to test.  That is how I began and I learned a lot from my first beta tester.

I'd like to do a YouTube video "Getting Started" tutorial to show just how easy it is to get started, plus a second video with time-saving tips and tricks. However, it wouldn't make sense to do this video for the old level builder and then have to redo it for the HD one once that's done. So alas the YouTube tutorial will have to wait. But once you know what you're doing, it's ridiculously easy to edit most things. Tip: use the eyedropper tool to draw bricks or erase tiles very very quickly, and use copy and paste to draw things like ladders, vines, and background tile patterns (like windows, jail cells, etc).

This sounds like a fantastic idea Vern, plus also a great way for us to share with our mac and PC friends how much fun the game is, and how creative and easy the builder is !!!  Can't wait  Wink
