A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

Additional "characters" to "say" things

I think this adds more to the game than simply having a sign. It would be nice to have a few additional static (non-animated) helpful... and myabe not-so-helpful characters.

One thing that's a little strange about the mansions - there's never anyone there except for critters trying to attack you. Now... maybe the critters already drove off all the people. Still, it would be kind of nice for at least some non-deserted parts of mansions, even if the interaction is very basic.

I agree with this

Also, I think there should be something to show Jack's thoughts if you understand what I mean.

Well... You could do this if you replace the sprite of a sign with the sprite of a person.people have done this in their mansions in the first game although I never personally understood how it works though... Undecided

You can do this in MM2 as well, however now you don't need to resort to this trick. Signs can be invisible in this version, so you place them behind gargoyles, "suits of armor", statues, etc. This has been done in a few mansions.

What I meant is a few more sprite "characters" that could basically front some invisible signs.

Edit: tried to clarify what I was looking for in last sentence.

I think MM has always been about this 'nostalgic' feeling of exploring rooms and solving puzzles.

Some animated sprites here and there perhaps either giving you a hint on how to solve the mansion or some background information would be a nice way to keep the game 'fresh' and interesting, I agree. Though I think the ability of making inanimate objects interactive is still a nice touch. Smiley

What about those little animations when you leave Jack idle? Cheesy
I think it's a nice way of showing his feelings... unless you mean there should be some way of expressing this in more detail?

One plan for either the Midnight Mansion 2 expansion pack, or Midnight Mansion 3, is to add a friendly ghost with a hat and monacle, who gives you advice on occasion.
