A brief history of the game
At first there was Midnight Mansion, now often called MM1. This game package was for Mac only and contained 8 mansions, each on easy, normal and hard level. Above that there was a builder included, so that customers could design mansions themselves.
Then there was Midnight Mansion HD, now abbreviated as MM1 HD for both Mac and Windows. It contained the 3x8 mansions from MM1 plus 3x a bonus mansion: Tomb of Princes. All in high definition!
Actionsoft's latest game, Midnight Mansion 2: The Haunted Hills, includes 28 mansions with a lot of new features. The 8 built-in mansions have 3 difficulties along with 4 extra custom mansions. Yes indeed, the MM2 package also has an included builder to create mansions!

Custom mansions

In the past decades several customers started experimenting with the builders. Creating rooms. Talking about it on the Midnight Mansion Forums. Sending their own designed mansions to other board members to test them. And finally sending them to the administrators of MMF.
Result? Nearly 200 extra mansions are downloadable from these boards and some of them have over 100 rooms.
If you like to download custom mansions, go to the General Custom Mansions Area (Mac and Windows) where you find the lists with all the download spots.

I just checked, and the source code backup I have is ONLY of Midnight Mansion. It doesn't include other things required, such as SpriteWorld (the animation library), and it's also the old non-HD version.

Better to wait until I get my stuff back out of storage, as what I have wouldn't be that useful.

Hi Vern! Thanks for checking in, and for the explanation. MM is one of my all-time favorite games EVER, still hoping someday we get a new version  Smiley

It feels like it's been forever, but I remember being really interested in the mansion builder code. Not so much to recreate the old builder exactly, but to re-implement it in a different language. Some of the lower-level, non-ui details would have been helpful.

I hope everyone's doing Ok.  I was feeling nostalgic and went to look at the high score list and saw that they weren't operational anymore.  Cry

I still occasionally play the last release, and it's really too bad that the Haunted Hills never got the same treatment as the original.  I really loved some of those mansions and some of the enhanced features.

I'm doing pretty good.  It feels like a lot of life has happened since I was last active on the forum. Nice to see it still here. I browsed through the messages and it seems like people found plenty of creative ways to keep playing.  How are you doing?

Yep, my web host changed servers on me a while back and broke everything... including my online order system. I got that working again, then they made more changes and broke it AGAIN.

I hope to get online scores working again... once I get automated order processing back up.

If you haven't seen it yet, read my big announcement here!

https://www.actionsoft.com/announcement/

Short version: I'm porting Midnight Mansion to the web, so I can support it better moving forward. Lots of big plans, including eventually a new Level Builder (that I'll be rewriting from scratch) and a port of Midnight Mansion 2, and then brand-new features.

Feel free to ask questions / post comment here.

I'm sorry I've been so lacking in support and communication all these years. I hope the announcement helps explain some of that.
